My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

🐶 🐕 GIDGET Female Border collie mix approximately 1 year, 20 lbs and AVAILABLE – check out more photos and see the rest of our dogs on our website -- https://norcalbcrescue.org/available-dogs/our-dogs/ 🐕 🐶

They don’t come any cuter than our sweet little GIDGET! She is about 1 year of age and very much energetic and puppy-like. Weighing about 20 pounds, GIDGET is a rather petite border collie mix and just right at her current weight. Her beautiful golden eyes are always alert, and she is ready for anything you can dish out to her.

GIDGET is a very friendly little pup who loves people, kids included. As we've lived with GIDGET over time, we've determined that she would do best as the only dog in the household. She requires lots of one-on-one interaction in order to learn the finer points of life. She is one of the happiest dogs we’ve ever fostered. Everything is fun for this girl! GIDGET loves to go for car rides and will readily jump into her crate or be secured in the back seat. She is primed and ready for a new owner to continue her training. She already knows how to sit on command, and she walks nicely on a leash. That said, a little more leash work would be beneficial. Since she is young, now is a great time to guide her to be the best she can be. GIDGET is treat -motivated and a quick learner, so training should be a blast.

GIDGET is doing well learning to go potty outside as she is taken out on a regular schedule. Consistency is key, as it is with any training. This little girl loves to chase a ball and will bring it back, but sometimes the little squirt teases you by running past you before dropping it. It is hilarious to watch her chasing the flying bugs in the yard and especially funny when she jumps up to try and catch them. GIDGET will play by herself with toys but, being so young, playing with stuffed toys should be supervised or they will require “surgery” afterwards. Appropriate chew toys are helping her learn what she can and cannot chew. It is like having a toddler in the house, so a watchful eye is a must.

GIDGET is very responsive to commands and she understands what “no” means. She can be headstrong, so clear and consistent leadership will be important for GIDGET to be the best dog she can be. And even though she may get her feelings hurt from hearing “no,” she quickly bounces back. Because she is so young and energetic, GIDGET can be a lot of dog in a little body, so an owner who is experienced with high energy dogs, such as GIDGET, will keep her on the right track as she matures.

GIDGET can be calm in the house and likes to lie down near you as you work on the computer, read a book, or just wants to relax on the sofa and watch TV. She is crate-trained, so she is very comfortable relaxing or sleeping in it.

GIDGET loves water, and she likes cooling off in the shallow part of her foster mom’s koi pond. Swimming with the fish in the deeper part is not allowed, so we do not know if she can swim. Sometimes this little cutie will lie nearby and watch her foster mom garden. Because GIDGET is very energetic, agile, and loves chasing balls, she might make a good partner for flyball, agility, or one of the other dog sports. She loves to run, so she might also make a great companion for a jogger/runner. With proper training we think GIDGET has the potential to excel at anything.

All in all, GIDGET is a little spitfire who is cute as a bug. If you are looking for an only dog, and can give GIDGET the lifestyle she deserves then we would be happy to talk to you.

GIDGET is micro-chipped, spayed, heartworm negative and on preventative, and up-to-date on vaccinations. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue and Adoptions Adoption Application (https://norcalbcrescue.org/adoption/adoption-application/) and wish to inquire about GIDGET, please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org. If you have an approved adoption application with Border Collie Rescue of Northern California let us know and we will request it be forwarded to us for consideration.

GIDGET is fostering in Nevada City in Nevada County, CA.
