My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! I'm Bo Chuckles Da Doo, but my foster people just call me Bo! As is true for many of my friends here at UPR, life and humans haven't treated me kindly. I was SO EXCITED when my forever person took me home as a wee pup, but unfortunately my forever person passed away when I was only about a year old. Distraught, confused, and lonely I found myself back at UPR, but was again SO EXCITED when my NEW forever person took me home! I guess I'm learning now that not all people will be my forever people because my second owner abandoned me. I just don't get it. Is it something I've done? I take a little while to warm up to people, but can you blame me? By a little while, I really mean about a day. I'm trying my hardest. I might bark to tell you that I'm scared, but I'm not aggressive and really just like for everybody to get along. The people at UPR and my foster people say I'm the sweetest boy...just a tall, lanky, loving goofball hoping maybe my third time's a charm. I like to play with other dogs! Cats are new to me, but the one I met was OK - I could probably get used to them :) I also really like to go outside and play with toys that have squeakers that I can really chew on! I have re-learned how to only potty outside, and I know what it means to "sit" and "lay down." After I'm all worn out from playing with people and dogs, I love to snuggle on the couch with the people who treat me right. Could you be that person? I still have some puppy energy at almost 2 years old, but I'm also young and eager enough to be trained by patient people. My foster people think that after I get over this bump in the road I'm going to make a really loving, loyal, sweet addition to someone's family - even if they already have pets around to be my new siblings. Inquire about me today! I'd love to meet you!

More about this shelter

Unleashed Pet Rescue and Adoption (UPR) was founded in 2011. Two independent rescuers in St. Joseph, Missouri had been rescuing dogs from local shelters and owner surrenders for several years, and had grown a tremendous passion for saving lives, especially the bully breeds in need.

Danielle Reno had been working hand in hand with several shelters in her local area, such as Atchison, Kansas City, St. Joseph, and Mission KS to save lives and work towards finding homes for pets in need of fur-ever homes, while Rachel Kovac was just a few miles away in the same city doing the same exact thing, as well as running several training programs for pets and humans (Prison Pup Program) and branching her rescue work out nation-wide. Eventually, these two young ladies crossed paths, and decided that they would make a great team together.

So, they officially became a licensed non-profit rescue together and continue their fight in saving the lives of homeless pets and striving to improve the image of bully breeds in society. We pull from high-kill shelters and often are at capacity at both our shelter and through our foster program, so our need for fosters and adopters, as well as donations, is always at very high demand to continue doing what we do. Thank you in advance for your support!
