Last night marked a week that we brought home our newest foster:
A skinny lil girl who’d recently had puppies, scars around top of her ears, missing hair in few spots, and a skin condition, named Mama Bear. Despite these signs of a neglected, not-so-great life .... she has shown nothing but sweetness to everyone she meets. Staff quickly saw that this girl was not handling kennel life well and was constantly jumping in her cage and was losing weight that she couldn’t afford to lose. To make her more comfortable, they put her in a back area where it was quieter and were also giving her extra food to help her gain some weight back. She was microchipped but was not reclaimed. She is estimated to be 1-5 y.o. and approximately 48 lbs.
This precious young girl will not be having anymore puppies, so “Mama Bear” just doesn’t fit her as well anymore. She is deserving of a much more resilient name that is just like she is! She doesn’t let her past keep her down. A wonderful new life is coming your way ATHENA. This pretty girl, Athena has no desire to share attention with other fur members in a home. She needs to be the only pet, and although very affectionate, because she doesn’t realize how strong she is, older kids may be best, at least until she learns better manners.
When we picked her up to foster, she already was looking better and had put a couple of pounds on! As she decompresses with us, learns our house rules and manners, and as we learn more about her personality, we will update everyone. .
The one thing we all agree on and have seen is that she is the sweetest girl, extremely affectionate, knows no personal space boundaries, and loves giving wet sloppy kisses! There is no doubt that she will be a super grateful and loving companion to whoever her lucky new family will be!
Few other things we learned so far:
She seems pretty young, almost puppy like at times!
LOVES food, soft blankies, and tearing up stuffy toys.
Perfect on car rides Isn’t much of a ball fetching girl, but we will work on teaching her how fun it is
Working on not jumping on people, for treats, affection, or attention.
Learning to walk like a lady on leash.
Working on her sit and more commands soon!
