My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi friends! My name is Elaine.
I arrived at CHS from my friends at Bark Nation, they saved me. Before Bark Nation, I was abused and misguided to what pet ownership really means. Now I am loved, safe, free from pain, called a good girl, receive all the booty rubs, and have all the tennis balls my puppy heart desires. I would make the perfect hiking buddy as its one of my favorite activities. Playing in the sun with my favorite toys and my best friends is the dream. My favorite toys are tennis balls and stuffies. If you are looking for a sweet, lovable older gal who is still ready for adventures - call my friends at the shelter to learn more about me. Help me make my dreams come true, I know I deserve it! Please ask my friends at the shelter about my medical needs!
I would like to be the only animal in the home and mature kids (12+) for me please.

*Elaine is also eligible to be fostered. Please reach out to the Foster Coordinator at 231-946-5116 or greckow@cherrylandhumane.org for more information about fostering. You can also visit our foster page for more information about fostering.

Additional adoption info

Dog Adoptions: $200
Cat Adoptions: $100

Please take a moment to review our Adoption Policy prior to applying to adopt a pet.

CHS accepts multiple applications on each animal, we are not first come first serve. Our team of adoption counselors will help matchmake every individual pet and family to ensure the best fit for all.

Must be 21 to adopt with a valid driver's license or state ID card.

We ask all members of the household to meet the new pet, some pets require multiple visits to build necessary relationships.

To align with our mission of solving the homeless pet crisis, all household pets must be spayed and neutered, up to date on necessary vaccinations, and live in the same household as the adopter. If not currently established with a veterinarian, a vet deposit will be required.

Cats and dogs adopted from CHS are indoor only.

Every pet is an individual, and many have individual needs such as : post adoption training (included with adoption), multiple meet and greets to feel comfortable, medical needs, etc. Our adoption counselors will communicate these needs with all interested families.

CHS will not begin adoption process with an individual when:

A person is reasonably believed to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Landlord or residence does not allow pets, or the living situation does not accommodate consistency for the pet (e.g. student housing, four unrelated adults living together, ect.)

Applications may be denied for any reason, including but not limited to an individual failing to comply with conditions of past adoption.
