Here's what the humans have to say about me:
If you've been on our Facebook you may have seen Dusk before. Until now that may be the only place you've seen him. Dusk has been in our care for over a year, and until recently, has lived in our open cat room. Dusk has always been shy and after his sister was adopted some time ago, he has kept to himself.
Despite being in a frequently visited room, Dusk was usually tucked away in a safe cubby so few people were able to see his true potential.
About a month ago we decided to give Dusk his own personal kitty condo. These spaces are quiet and peaceful, but also smaller. We were worried he would be afraid of visitors approaching his kennel, but instead, he shocked us with just how comfortable he was!
Dusk is more confident than ever now and enjoys watching our staff as they clean the other condos. He has even started bravely greeting customers who pass him by, not ready for pets yet, but his curiosity is a good sign he will thrive once he's in a home.
Melanie & Kara with Pinnacle Financial Partners have paid $80 of Dusk's adoption fee in hopes of finding him a home soon. If you are interested in meeting the cat who has defied all odds, stop by today to meet Dusk. Or email the adoption team at adoption@lynchburghumane.org with questions you might have. If you'd like to foster Dusk to give him a break from the shelter, email foster@lynchburghumane.org.

All prices include spay/neuter, initial set of shots, initial dewormer and 10% off at our retail shop on the day of adoption.
(an additional $5 microchip fee is required)
*Certain dogs and puppies may have a higher adoption fee due to size and breed.
The process is simple; you come and visit with the pet you are interested in, we review your adoption form and you can take them home that day. If the pet is not spayed or neutered then we will set you up with an appointment for our transport to our clinic. Please bring with you a photo ID and you are welcome to bring in your dog to do an introduction with your new pet.
We have dedicated volunteers and staff who can help you choose the right match for your family just ask for assistance and let us know what your needs are and we can help you find your next friend.
Placing an animal on ‘hold’: The Lynchburg Humane Society wants your adoption experience to be as pleasant and as stress-free as possible which is why we allow potential adopters to place holds on animals so that they can take their time making adoption decisions, introducing family members and other pets, and researching breed traits. Holds may be placed over the phone or in person, and in the case of a “tie”, the individual physically visiting the shelter and the animal will be awarded the first hold on the pet. Adoption holds may only be placed during business hours by speaking with a team member and paying the hold fee.

More about this shelter
For over fifty years, the LHS has operated as a private, non-profit organization, caring for lost and homeless pets. Last year, we cared for 3,981 pets and 96% of the pets went to new or existing homes. We are a No Kill Humane Society and a 501c3. By operating the public shelter for the City of Lynchburg and Appomattox County, we accept the stray or unwanted pets surrendered to us from those communities. We also have developed a more regional/state level focus. In 2016 we helped 602 pets from other public shelters that otherwise may have had a negative outcome. We accept those that are easily adoptable as pets, as well as those that need special nurturing from abusive or neglectful experiences. We firmly believe that no healthy or treatable pet should be euthanized. Along with our Center for Pets we also have a regional spay/neuter clinic located in Evington, VA. The spay/neuter clinic serves Lynchburg, Campbell, Nelson, Rockbridge, Appomattox, Bedford and Amherst Counties. It is the help of the community that makes our life-saving programs possible.
Mission: Help pets in need thru sheltering, adoption, education, spay/neuter and community outreach.
Vision: A community free of homeless and neglected pets.
