Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Name: Hamilton
Nicknames: Ham. Ham Ham. Hammy. Ham-a-lam-a-ding-dong. Dinkus. Hamboni. Hambone. Bone. Ham-hock. Hock. Ham and Cheese. Ham and eggs
.Breed: Pitbull
Sex: Male
Age: 7 months
Weight: ~45 lbs.
Before OMD: Found as a stray when he was just a very tiny pup and it was evident something was very wrong with his leg. We took him into rescue, and it was confirmed he had fractured his right front leg. Next came surgery, lots of rest, bandage changes, rechecks, and tlc. We have kept him in rescue to heal and monitor his development, and after multiple exams, our vets feel he healed wonderfully and is ready for his forever. He looks, acts, and feels like any normal pup now!
Energy level: A very nice medium.
Affection level: High, but not smothering. He's a perfect balance of will independently chew on a bone or an antler but when he’s ready to snuggle, he becomes a lap dog.
Reminds us of: A deer wearing work boots.
What we love most: He's a wiggle machine. He's a socialite. He’s a goofball. He’s constantly leaping about like the aforementioned work-boot-wearing-deer.
His favorite misheard lyrics: Woah black Betty, Ham-a-lam.
Security system rating: A+ he’s going to alert you of all the sounds he doesn’t recognize.
Stranger danger: Nah – everyone is a friend who gets greeted with exuberance!
What he loves: Adventures with his foster family. Walks. Any and all stuffed toys. Benebones. Antlers. Pups Cups, but he isn't picky - he hasn't met a treat he hasn't liked.
What he knows: Sit.
What he’s working on: All other skills... except sit.
Leash manners: Getting there! He’s excited right out of the gate but settles in after about a ½ mile, puts his ears back, and goes.
Dogs: From his foster – “Please get this boy a home with other dogs! He loves all dogs and is respectful of the ones that don’t want to play.”
Cats: Has lived with cats before and should be just fine to live with another dog-savvy cat.
Kids: Though he hasn't officially lived with any, we think he’d be just fine. He's friendly, tolerant, and surprisingly not mouthy for a puppy.
Crate-trained: Yep! Barks a bit at first but settles right in.
House-trained: Working on it, but making some good progress.
Hamilton is vaccinated, heartworm negative, and microchipped. He is available for adoption to CT and surrounding states. If you are interested in adopting, please complete an application from omdrescue.org
