Sweater Believe it or not, I arrived at HSHC in August 2023 as a stray 3-month-old kitten. I was what they call `undersocialized,` meaning I demonstrated fearful behavior 100% of the time. However, I`ve made significant progress since then, living in my foster home since October 2023. Now, as a 1-year-old cat, I feel safe and comfortable. My foster mom wants you to know this about me: Sweater plays and allows himself to be held and petted. When we returned home from the shelter, he did a quick lap around the apartment and settled into my lap for many pets. I am happy to report that he has resumed his normal behavior, a clear sign of his progress. Since having his nails trimmed, he is not clawing as much and is displaying more affectionate behavior. He is eating/drinking well and pottying like normal. He has shown renewed interest in his bird-watching perch and his toys. Since returning home, he has slept at the foot of my bed at night and seems happy to resume his routine. My foster mom says I would not be a good pet for children under 18 due to my `short fuse!` I will thrive with an experienced cat person who understands scared cats like me. It`s nearly `sweater weather`! How about adopting me? 8-26-24

With an open admission policy, a No-Kill philosophy, and more than 3,100 animals crossing our threshold each year, we have still maintained a 98% placement rate over the last 3 years.
This is an amazing feat for any organization…let alone one that takes in some of the most abused, injured and seriously ill animals imaginable.
