My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I’m Chico, the sweetest boy in the world! I was brought to this great shelter on 07/21/2023 as a stray and have been showing off my amazing self ever since! The shelter was able to neuter, microchip, and fully vaccinate me. Since coming to the shelter I’ve learned some really cool tricks like, lay down, sit, and crawl! I`m almost close to mastering rollover! I love treats and am highly motivated by them, which means I’m a breeze to train! I also love tennis balls and will play fetch with you as long as you’ll play with me! I absolutely love to run around and play and would love to go on long hikes and explore the world with you. I love pets, giving kisses, and would be the biggest snuggle bug ever. My handlers think I have so much potential to do great in a home and they would love to tell you all about my great qualities! We strongly recommend calling the shelter between 11am and 4pm to discuss more details about my background with our behavior team!

More about this shelter

What is it and why do we do it?

We "go the extra mile" to help assure that, when you adopt a pet from HSVB&IRC, you'll be making an informed choice. By matching an animal's personality to yours and your lifestyle, we're more likely to assure that you make the right adoption decision the first time.

We are using a program developed by the ASPCA. It is called "Meet Your Match." Currently, we evaluate dogs and cats before we make them available for adoption.

Also, we ask each prospective adopter to complete an Adopters' Survey which helps identify factors in their lifestyle which might guide their choice of animals. Then, we compare the findings to make a match.

Proudly, we have a very high adoption retention rate — a fact we credit to taking this extra step in the adoption process.
We want you to make a "SAFER" choice, too.
In addition to Meet Your Match, HSVB&IRC has implemented the ASPCA’s Meet Your Match SAFER™ (Safety Assessment For Evaluating & Rehoming) program - a tool for assessing the probability of future canine aggression. Ask us for more details.
