My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Ivy is a sweet, silly, cuddly, and affectionate girl - as of September 2024, she has been with us waiting for her forever family for over 365 days which is mind-blowing to staff at Thrive because of how great of a dog she is. Let's prioritize giving this lovebug a much deserved home for her to call her own!!

Personality: She is a medium to high energy dog who loves to play - she enjoys mental and physical stimulation such as going for hikes or long walks/runs. She loves playing with other dogs and her people friends, but then she’s happy to relax and sunbathe in the yard after to decompress. Her favorite move is to flop on her back and show you her belly to ask for rubs :) Her Boxer zoomies will make you laugh!

Training: Ivy has been going to doggie day care multiple times per week to hang out with all of her dog friends and has been doing great!! Despite her roughhousing playstyle with other large dogs, she is extremely gentle with puppies. She walks nicely on a leash and knows basic commands.

As most dogs, Ivy *loves* her food! So much so that she will sometimes get nervous when humans or dogs approach her when she's eating because she's scared they're going to take her food away. As a human, I wouldn't like that either! We've been helping calm her nerves and show her that the food we give her is hers to keep. Our trainers have been working with her on this for the past several months where it's been a complete non-issue as long as proper guidance and instruction is followed. Ivy is on a special low-fat diet and we recommend that adopters keep her on this upon adoption to ensure she’s in tip-top health.

The perfect forever family: She would do great in an active household with a young couple who loves to hike or go on adventures, and is good with kids 13+. We're not sure how she would do around cats.

Ivy is available for a long-term committed foster or forever family.

More about this rescue

Thrive Animal Rescue is the brainchild of Cece Durante Bloum and Georgia Spogli. Cece, a lifelong animal lover, equestrian and founder of Newmarket Equestrian Center, sought a way to incorporate her love for animals with her desire to give back to the community. Being a dog lover first and foremost, Cece began finding dogs in shelters for friends who wanted to adopt but could not bear the heartache of searching through shelters to find the right match. Cece realized that shelters are filled with dogs who have been abandoned for reasons having nothing to do with serious health or behavioral issues. Georgia had completed similar rescue work on the East Coast and successfully placed several dogs in the loving homes of friends and associates in the equestrian world. Georgia felt a calling to do more and joined forces with Cece in 2014. They recruited more dog loving friends from the equestrian world, applied for non-profit status, and Thrive Animal Rescue was born!

Thrive continues to carry out its mission to rescue family friendly dogs from abandonment and shelters and place them in loving forever homes. Additionally, it is our goal to educate adopters on the importance of their commitment to their new furry family member. We consider suitability a vital part of the process of placing a dog in a loving forever home and believe this diminishes the likelihood that a dog will become displaced or rehomed again, thereby reducing the number of viable dogs being euthanized.
