My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Gunner has had quite a journey with Beauties. We first found him at the shelter on death row. He was confiscated by Animal Control living on a log chain outside with no food and water and wasn't super excited when animal control came. Dogs who live life At the shelter he was kennel reactive and almost lost his life because his fearful reactions at the shelter were misunderstood and he was considered likely dog aggressive. Luckily Amy and Randi decided to take a chance on him.

Over time, we found that Gunner is reactive with dogs when there is a barrier (leash, kennel, fence) but with proper introduction and time, Gunner is friendly with dogs and cats. He needs the right match and his bff Randi will be sure your home is the right fit.
Gunner is a sweet boy who loves to be loved! He's a big ol' goober who loves to flop down at your feet for belly rubs. He is a free spirit who loves to play and destroy his toys, He loves all visitors and will love you forever if you give him a treaty! Men are his absolute favorite, he's a total dude's dog. Would you believe this big guy loves to curl up with his human friends? He also really loves being covered in a blankey which means he also loves a good sweater day! He is wonderful with kids and has lived in a home with newborn through 10 years old. Gunner also loves car rides, despite sometimes being nervous, he does want to go. Hanging outside is his FAVORITE! This silly guy also has silly and fun zoomies. One thing you can always count on when giving him your time and love is his amazing smile. Gunner would make a wonderful and loyal companion for someone who wants a big, adorable shadow.

Gunner is so loved but he does have some baggage from his life as a chain dog that he just can't seem to shake. He is NOT a dog that can do walks or dog parks. He amps at any dog outside his leash barrier and corrections only cause more negative stimulation and for him to redirect on his handler. Gunner requires a 6 foot privacy fence. He thrives with strong leadership and structure. He knows several commands that he has learned throughout the years working with all the volunteers that enjoy spending time with this big goof.

We LOVE our Gunner, Gunny, G and we know his perfect home is out there.

Additional adoption info

For us, the adoption process begins the day we take a dog or cat into our rescue. It’s a huge responsibility, taking in a lost soul and promising them a happy life, but we are pretty proud of the forever families we’ve helped create because our adoption process is so thorough.

The first step in adopting is to fill out the adoption application. This helps our volunteers understand what kind of new friend you are looking for, and allows us to identify any issues that would prevent us being able to place certain animals in certain homes. For example, breed restrictions in your town or apartment complex, etc…

The Beauties will conduct a vet check to make sure the pets you currently have are all up-to-date on vaccinations and spayed or neutered. We will also contact you to set up a home visit, where we can make sure that the home you have meets the needs of the animal you are interested in. Example: fence height for dogs who are jumpers, stairs for dogs who have mobility challenges, etc… We try to troubleshoot any potential problem areas and offer friendly advise so that our ultimate goal, a forever happy match, can be achieved.

After the application process is complete, the real fun begins! It’s time for Meet-N-Greets! We have a professional dog trainer on our board of directors, and we can schedule her assistance in helping you with dog-to-dog introductions while you are searching for your new family member. It’s amazing how often the existing family pet has a little something to say about who they want to spend time with and having a pro help out makes the potential for a successful intro go through the woof! We mean, roof!

Once you have decided on the dog or cat of your dreams, all that is left to do is sign the adoption contract and pay the fee, which includes all vaccinations, microchip and spay/neuter.

Our purpose is to rescue death row animals from the shelter and in our community and place them in foster homes where they can receive the care and training needed to become family pets. Our main mission is to change these animals’ worlds one rescue at a time. Another large part of our mission is to be a voice for animals in need throughout our community and we are proud to say we have been able to make an impact on the streets of our city as well.
