Meet Cooper! Cooper is a shy three-year old male Great Pyrenees mix, most likely mixed with lab based on his coat length, head shape, and meek temperament. He weighs around 65 pounds, but would be healthiest with another 10-15 pounds on him.
He has beautiful freckles on his nose and tan ears, with a few tan spots on his sides, too. He has a shorter coat, which means less shedding!
Cooper came into foster care as “Bowser” from a local animal shelter. No information was available as to where exactly he came from, but he likely had been a stray for a while based on the dirt caked in his fur and his initial fear of people.
He would be an excellent family companion – he keeps to himself, is patient with little dogs, and rarely barks. He likes having a little nook that belongs to him, and once he is comfortable in his nook, he lets his foster mom give him ear and belly rubs.
Most importantly, Cooper needs a patient, kind family who will give him space as he settles in and continues to learn to trust humans. While he’s a shy guy, he is not aggressive. He has made great strides in coming out of his shell with his foster family who knows that with the right fit, he will continue to blossom into a wonderful, loyal, loving family member.
Cooper would likely do best with another doggy companion to keep him company so he isn’t alone when his humans aren’t at home. Coop-a-doop is playful with his furry foster siblings outside, and loves watching them be rowdy indoors as he gives a big smile even if he doesn’t join in. He has not been tested with kitties yet, but we imagine he would leave them alone.
Cooper loves toys and needs to chew on them to keep calm when his people are away. He has not demonstrated any interest in the pool but with the lab in him, he may still have water-dog potential!
He has no need for a crate and is house trained. He rides fine in a car, but sometimes needs a little encouragement to hop out when it’s over.
He needs a well-established fence in place for his forever home, as he is an escape artist and found a way to dig under his foster mom’s fence on his first day home!
