Take the Pet Home
Hazel is a sweet adult kitty looking for a home where she is the only cat. PAWS-OK rescued her in the summer of 2021 with her litter of kittens from the MWC Shelter. She is a regular at our Meet & Greet events at A1 Pet Emporium due to her FIV status. She is very healthy, spayed, fully vaccinated and microchipped. Hazel was tested for Feline Leukemia and FIV and is positive for the FIV virus. As such, exposure to other cats who are not also positive should be severely limited to prevent the spread of this immunodeficiency virus. Even though FIV+ cats can live very long happy, sickness free lives with proper and regular medical care, exposure to other cats who may carry other viruses can be problematic for Hazel whose immune response will become less effective, especially as Hazel ages. Fighting which includes deep penetrating bite wounds, may also transfer other cats to FIV. FIV is a species specific virus and not transferable to humans or canines. PAWS-OK recommends that cats with FIV live in homes as only cats or with cats that already have the virus. Hazel's FIV status can cause cat virus related ailments to manifest faster and be more severe that for cats who do not carry the virus so prompt veterinary care is required at the first sign of sickness.
PAWS-OK is a small foster based non profit rescue operating in the OKC area since 2008. All our cats and kittens are spayed or neutered, tested for feline leukemia and FIV, up-to-date on their vaccines, litterbox trained and fostered in a volunteers home. We are committed to placing our rescues in the most loving homes that we can, regardless of how long it takes. Our kittens are kept with their mothers for as long as possible and not offered for adoption until they are at least 16 weeks of age. A handful of our available felines can be seen in the PetSmart Adoption Center in Rockwell Plaza (8357 N Rockwell) during normal store hours.
If you are interested in adopting a new cat from PAWS-OK for your family, please go to our Adoption Request form at https://form.jotform.com/pawsokrescue/adoption-request-form . Your Request will be processed by a PAWS Volunteer who may reach out to you via email to clarify your information if needed. Processing normally takes 2-3 business days. If your request is approved, an Adoption Counselor will contact you to set up a phone interview or a time to meet with them at our Adoption Center. If we cannot help you, we may redirect you to other sources for a cat that may better fit your situation. Thank you for looking at our available cats and kittens. If you have any questions, please reach out for us at pawsokrescue@gmail.com.
