All of the animals posted on our site have been temperament tested. While not all are in the immediate area, once we have processed and approved your application, we will move the dog to our adoptive area for you to meet, greet and hopefully adopt. Sometimes we will have more than one application on a dog. That does not mean it automatically goes to another family but you should be aware of the fact that until you are approved and set up for the meet/greet.. the dog could get adopted by another applicant.
Poppy is a great all around family dog and one who you will be proud to call 'Our girl.' Her foster says 'She is a total sweetheart', and she gave us a great write up on Poppy, so you can get to know her before you ever see her.
Poppy is happiest when lying in the sun or napping next to you on the couch. She also likes to sleep at the end of the bed next to your feet. She is completely housetrained and has never had an accident in the house (she currently enjoys the freedom of a fenced in yard for potty breaks). She will let you know when it is time to play with her tennis ball or go for her daily walk to explore the neighborhood by giving you a look and a bark. Unfortunately, she has issues with smaller dogs and has bitten them when provoked or feeling jealous, so no smaller dogs in her new family. She plays well with bigger dogs and goes to doggy daycare twice a week for socialization, where the staff absolutely adores her. She currently lives with a 70lb coonhound mix who she likes to play with. Poppy came to us three years ago with severe separation anxiety issues but has come a long way and does well for a few hours in her “indestructible” crate – just give her a peanut butter-filled Kong and she will do okay while you go out for a bit. Poppy is looking for a home where she can be the center of your world and she will repay you with unconditional love and companionship.
What makes Poppy great…
· Relatively low energy dog who just enjoys being with her owner(s). She has bouts of energy and will want to play fetch but never for too long.
· Zero food aggression. She eats when she is hungry, and she loves to savor her treats and thinks ice cubes are the best treat ever!
· Loves to go on walks and they don’t have to be super long – 10-15 minutes a night keeps her happy, but will happily join you on a longer walk when possible.
· LOVES people and will happily greet your guests with enthusiasm. She has been around small children with no issues.
· Well socialized with dogs her size or bigger by going to doggy daycare twice a week (and will be zonked out all night after a day of playing). However, she seems to be more interested in people than other dogs in general.
· Knows basic commands like sit, shake and come.
· She is great in cars. She will chill out in the back seat and just enjoy the view.
· Overall very healthy with no major issues.
Where Poppy has some challenges…
· Separation anxiety – would not do well for long days without someone home – highly recommended that she be crated while alone to avoid any damage to property.
· Aggression toward smaller dogs – when feeling jealous or annoyed.
· Good on leash but could use more training/reinforcement as she will get overly excited (pulling, barking) when she sees another dog.
Full of life and love, she is all ready to be yours. She has had a complete vetting and has all her shots. All she needs now to complete her world is for you to clip on your leash, bend over, and say 'Let's go home, Poppy'.
