Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Chewy The Great!!
We need him Chewy The Great for a reason! Because he is the absolute best poodle we have ever had the pleasure of helping in rescue! If you are looking for a wonderful little boy who is so happy that he almost wiggles his butt off anytime you talk to him then Chewy is your boy! This almost 11 pound ball of love is a beautiful poodle with typical non-shedding, hypoallergenic poodle curls of cream, gray and silver. He is currently 11 months old with his birthday coming up at the end of September. He is the happiest boy ever and he is totally housebroken.
This little boy came into rescue with his best friend, a Poodle/Terrier mix named Bailey. Both were living in a very bad situation. The woman who had them from the time they were 6 week old puppies until recently, became homeless with her daughter. They lost the ranch that they were renting and had to move out with their multiple dogs and cats. The only place that they could find was living in the back of a truck yard where drivers go to park their rigs, shower and spend the night before they get back on the road. A family member runs it so they were staying outdoors and also in a bus that no longer runs, with all the dogs and cats. Mostly they lived outside of the bus setting up a makeshift tented area next to it.
They finally decided to give up the two little dogs (Bailey and Chewy) because they would run under the trucks and were afraid that they would wind up getting killed. Now they are in foster care in a private home living with several other dogs and cats and get along well with them all. Chewy was pretty bold right away wagging his tail and butt so hard any time you would talk to him that we knew he was grateful to be in a real house again! He loves to dance with you and loves kisses on the head. He is very fond of the outdoors and has very little fear.
He absolutely loves toys and has a penchant for tennis balls and loves to play fetch! He would do great in a wide variety of homes as he is kind and loving. As he and Bailey have been together for almost a year we are happy to keep them together but it is not a requirement to do so as they are not bonded but like each other.
His adoption fee includes the following:
1. Current vaccinations including rabies
2. Neuter (provided by the rescue)
3. Deworming
4. Microchip
5. Starter food
6. Grooming
7. Harness and leash
His adoption fee is $475.
As we prescreen via email ONLY (we do NOT make or receive phone calls in the pre-screening phase) please tell us a bit about you such as:
1. Your lifestyle, activity level and work schedule.
2. Area you live in and if it is a house or apartment. (Please indicate city)
3. How many adults, children and pets in the household.
4. Where your pet stays when you are out or at work.
5. Where your pet will sleep.
6. Dog breed experience
7. Have you ever had to give up a pet
8. If you do not currently have a pet how you will keep Chewy socialized with other dogs
Some notes to consider before applying for Chewy:
1. Chewy is an 11 month old young dog who has come from a very difficult living situation. Please make sure that everyone is on board and ready for the responsibility of a young dog and is ready to give him the love and structure that se needs to make her the best dog ever.
2. Please make sure you are ready to adopt before coming to see our adoptable dogs. We are a foster based rescue and do not have the space to hold dogs for a couple of weeks while you vacation or make your way to California to come and adopt. We will adopt out of state on occasion but ONLY if the potential adopter comes here to adopt in person and that is after a screening by Skype. WE DO NOT SHIP DOGS EVER.
3. We are often inundated with emails about our adoptable dogs and try as we might to make everyone happy it is nearly impossible with only one dog and sometimes up to 50 potential families. The more information you provide in your email to us the quicker we will get back to you. If you have written to us before about a particular dog in the past and did not receive a response please do try again. However PLEASE DO NOT SEND MORE THAN ONE EMAIL PER ADOPTABLE DOG. We try to answer every email but it is not always possible. Every dog has different home requirements that we search for so sometimes you are the right fit for the dog we are trying to place. .
4. We do not make appointments for people to just come "see" the dogs available. They are in private foster homes and we go through a pre-screening process before any appointments are made.
Thank you for choosing to adopt!
