Update 10/3/23:

Hi my name is Lady and I got to my foster mom's home on September 16th. I was scared, anxious and afraid of anything and everyone. My foster mom has been so patient with me. I am slowly getting off Prozac and life is turning around. I am down to half a dose and will continue to cut it down so I am hoping I do not have to be on it. My foster mom is planning on reducing my dose again this week. I am more alert off the Prozac, but am easily spooked with quick movement and loud noises.

I get to sleep inside and do very well having free roam of the living room and kitchen. I love my bed and blankets in the living room. I sometimes choose to sleep in bed with my mom. She has an ottoman next to the bed that I use to get on and off the bed, it makes it so much easier. I have learned to wait in the kitchen to go outside in the morning before she has her coffee.

During the day my foster mom goes to work and I have free roam of the living room and kitchen. I do not counter surf and pretty much sleep all day. Once in a while I need to get a drink of water from my water bowl. My foster mom spies on me with a camera during the day. I like the smell of my foster mom and drag the blankets from the couch to the floor to sleep on. I do not mess in the house or chew on anything. Recently, I get so excited when she comes home that I get up and wag my tail and greet her and then we go outside and I get to sniff and play!

I have been going on walks and liking it. I walk nice on a leash, but veer away from parked cars. The ones driving by slowly do not bother me anymore, the loud ones and motorcycles still spook me. I have had a playdate with 2 golden friends and I did very well. I want to play with them some more. I have met a husky who was very nice and gentle and we got along fine and will get to play with her more. Not sure about puppies yet...way too much energy for me. I love to roll in the grass in the backyard and take care of my business. There are squirrels and birds to watch and chase. I am doing a great job of keeping squirrels out of my foster mom's yard!!

I am still hesitant around hoomans and will only get so close. I will keep my distance and stay in my safe zone. I have not met any kids yet, so I cannot tell you how I would do with them.

I have some work to do, but I am getting there. I am finding love ❤ and patience with my foster mom!!

Update 7/29/23:
Lady is scheduled to be spay on 8/10/23. We are starting her on anxiety medication to keep her comfortable and progressing to being the best dog she deserves to be.

Update 6/28/23:
A small update on Lady: she’s making progress and showing she is learning to trust us. She even took a treat from our hand! We love watching her blossom and grow!

Update 6/3/23:
Lady had her vet check and the vet said her heart and lungs sound great, negative for heartworm and tick borne diseases. She is being treated for nasty ear infections. The vet was pretty impressed with her health considering her unknown background. Lady is making progress on learning how to trust humans but she is still a shy girl, we would LOVE to see her in a home so she can decompress even more. When Lady is brave enough to come up for pets, she freezes but eventually leans in to like them. She also does follow us around staying a bit of a distance but while it may seem minor, it is huge progress for our girl! Lady has been in playgroups with dogs of all sizes and she’s great, she seems to stay off to the side but there has been no signs of aggression. Lady truly is trying to come out of her shell and hopefully in time, she’ll realize this Golden life is GReat!

Lady is a 5-year-old purebred Golden Retriever. Lady came in a week ago from a commercial breeding facility. The breeder had decided to retire her as he’s focusing on raising small breeds, so he reached out for us to take her in. We wish dogs could talk so she could tell us how she got all the scars on her nose, so whatever her past is, it’s clear she had some trauma. Lady is a bit on the shy side but is making huge strides, if you allow her to come to you, she will come up for pets and is learning how to enjoy them. She does keep her kennel clean and does love laying outside. Lady has spent the last week decompressing and is ready for the next step of her journey, to move into a home. She does walk somewhat well on a leash, but she does spook so a fenced yard would be preferred unless there is a strong plan in place to keep her safe. Kids should be at least 8 or older, she still is figuring out that people can be good so too active of a home may be too much for her. She definitely follows the other dogs in her home so another dog is required. It’s been great watching her come out of her shell over the last week and with the right home, we know she’ll continue to grow. She is eligible for a foster to forever program.
