Meet sweet, lovable boy Max! Max is a 6-year-old, 15-lb. poodle mix who wants nothing more than to spend his days by your side. We don’t know a lot about Max’s earlier years, other than he was adopted from a local shelter two years ago by a young girl who loved him dearly, but whose family gave him away when she headed to college. Thankfully, through the kindness of strangers, he found his way to our rescue. Despite what must have been a confusing and sad time for Max, he is a happy boy and is so ready for a new family that will love and care for him forever. Max is house trained, and enjoys sniffing around his foster mom’s yard, almost as much as loves going on walks. He is great on leash and doesn’t react to others dogs - he’s far more interested in making his mark and staking his claim as king of the neighborhood! Max would do well as the only dog, or with a calm fur sibling who is respectful of his space, toys and food. He would do best in a family with no small children. He has done well with his older foster fur-sister, and we have been working with him on his resource guarding, which we’ve seen a few times with his food/treats. But he's not highly food motivated, and tends to leave food in his bowl that he comes back to for snacking. He loves his treats though – there’s no saving those, they are enjoyed immediately. Max does best with slow introductions with new people, though he has surprised his foster mom a few times with his friendly greetings to some neighbors. Max needs a family who will be patient with him as he learns to trust them, and once he does, this little guy will give them his whole heart. It was less than 24hrs before he was laying on his back for his foster mom, asking for belly rubs. Max would love someone who won’t leave him alone frequently, as he does have some separation anxiety. It doesn’t manifest in any destruction or accidents though, he just whines and paces a bit, before ultimately settling. He has been improving every time his foster mom goes out (she checks in on him with a camera) and she is so proud of him for how much better he’s doing! Max doesn’t need a crate and can be trusted on his own to roam the house. If you’re looking for a cuddle bug who will adore you, Max is your boy. He will be your shadow in the best possible ways. Weeding your garden? Max will happily sunbathe next to you. Cooking dinner? Max will chill on the kitchen mat and be your company. Hanging on the couch? He will fall asleep next to you with his little paws touching your leg. Max thrives in calm environments where he can relax and let his guard down. Max is such a special pup and is going to be an amazing addition to someone’s family. Max has hair not fur, so he will need daily brushing/combing to keep the mats at by, and will need regular trips to the groomer. If you live in the Central Florida (Orlando) area and believe your family is a perfect fit for Max, please submit an application and tell us more about you.
