Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hi folks,
I am writing with a broken heart because I am going to have to find a new home for my “big boy”, Leo. I am moving out of state and will be unable to find an apartment that accepts two dogs and the travel with them would be very difficult driving 1000 miles. I had thought about getting both documented as Emotional Support pets but will just do it for my oldest, Megan, who is an elderly beagle mix.
Leo was adopted through No Kill Louisville several years ago but I don’t remember the year. I think he is about 10 years old but I’m
not sure exactly. He is about 90 lbs. When I first adopted him he was a handful to walk. He pulled on the leash all the time and would not stay by my side. Over time he became much better - as I learned how to manage his behavior better - and I have taken him on long walks. He gets afraid when it thunders and will often come and put his head in my lap and stays there when he is scared. He enjoys being where I am but doesn’t follow me around like Megan does. Most of the day he sleeps but always enjoys going out in the back yard for a bit. He has never shown interest in playing with toys though he does like to chew on edible chewable things (I don’t give him rawhide).
He gets along well with my other dog and they play together at times in the house. However, when I walk him he gets agitated at varying degrees when other dogs are approaching and so I try to move to the other side of the street. Once, when I was walking him along Bardstown Road in the Highlands neighborhood, a couple of people were sitting at a table in front of the restaurant. I had not seen that they had a dog under that table and when Leo and I passed by the dog stood up and moved towards Leo who then lunged at the couple’s dog and bit him. Also, he remains anxious when getting groomed. When I take him in I have to medicate him the night before and the morning of the appointment because otherwise he has difficulty tolerating the grooming.
Most of the day, Leo is calm and lays around and sleeps. He does enjoy attention and loves being petted and played with. As I mentioned he does like to walk. It has taken time for us to grow in love with each other but now having to separate from him is breaking my heart.
That’s all I know at this point. I would love to find a home for him if possible.
If you're interested in meeting this special boy, please fill out an application online - this doesn't obligate you to anything, just helps us find the right fit for Leo. www.nokill-louisville.org/adopt
