My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

G'day. My name is DORIE (Dorla) and here is a little info about me:
Breed: Golden Retriever/Lab mix
Age: 5 years
Gender: female
Weight: 32 kg
Height: 55 cm

Dorie is very loved by her Canadian momma, but has to be rehomed due to health reasons. Here is what she has to say about her sweet girl: If you love being greeted at the door every time you come home with a smiling, tail-wagging dog with the biggest paws on the block, then please meet Dorie.

This sweet, playful Golden Retriever/Lab cross loves spending time lounging around the house and having a spot to sleep in every room. She loves playing with tennis balls and durable stuffies. Dorie is an independent girl who can keep herself entertained with toys and puzzles, but would also benefit from having a playful friend around the neighbourhood to help her socialize more.

She is smart, and understands some basic commands (sit, lay down, shake a paw.) We have been working on recall and she does well on leash.

Having a strong prey drive, Dorie will chase after small animals (including cats). So household devoid of a cat or other small animals is needed.

Dorie has been friendly meeting children, but has not been with them for any extended amount of time. She does well with women and has made some dog friends around the neighbourhood. There are some days where she will bark at other dogs, as well some men, but she is able to be redirected with consistent work.

Dorie would do better in a home with a yard where she could relax. Her preference is for shorter walks, and her recall is getting better, so has been having lots more off-leash time.

She hasn’t wanted to try swimming yet, but has been out on a paddle board several times. Dorie loves food, treats, and jumping into the water to play. She sleeps well through the night, and sometimes even snores after a busy day!

Once Dorie gets the zoomies, prepare for the cutest dog show ever. She would do well in a home that would allow her outdoor time, but also time to relax indoors.

Hiya guys! One time, in my home country during the middle of the night, the city officials were killing the neighborhood dogs. I did some major sneaky work and ran away from the city officials into my rescuer’s father’s yard. Lucky for me, he had left the door open to take out the trash. I ran into his yard and hid in a box until I was found by my rescuer's dad. I was so lucky to end up in his yard. The stars have aligned for me to end up in Canada with you. It was fate!

I am very friendly and love to play with humans, as well as other dogs. I even have a doggy best friend! His name is Mack (also posted.)

I have been told that I’m super intelligent and learn commands very quickly. I am really hoping that I will end up in Canada soon and my new life will start with you! Please consider me to be a new addition to your family! I promise to fit right in!

Disclaimer: It is important for all applicants to visit our website, http://www.lovedatlastdogrescue.ca/adopting/ and read about Loved at Last Dog Rescue.

Basic training should be taken seriously, but should not begin until your dog is well settled in - at least a couple of weeks. After you feel your new dog is relaxed and comfortable in their new home, check out training courses in your local area. Even basic beginner courses like those taught at a local pet store can have a huge benefit in helping your dog learn to socialize and get used to being in public situations, all with the added benefit of strengthening their bond with you.

The age and breed of a dog is usually an educated guess, so we are not able to guarantee the accuracy of age or breed of our dogs.

Normally, we will not approve adoptions to homes with children under 12 years of age. However if a dog has been determined to be good with children we will approve applicants with children 8 years or older. More information can be found on our website.
