My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Latitia plans to attend A MEET AND GREET AT PETCO IN ROSEVILLE 12:30 - 2:30 ON SATURDAY OCTOBER 14. 2775 NORTH FAIRVIEW AVENUE

Latitia, her mom (pictured) and siblings were surrendered to PUP as the family had too many dogs and wanted them all to get good homes of their own. Puppies were born 6-14-2023 and they have been well socialized and well cared for. They arrived pleasingly plump and had clearly been well loved. Mommy (pictured) weighs 31# and looks like a Kelpie mix. We suspect the puppies, who all now weigh about 7.5#, will be a bit bigger than she as adults, probably more like 40-45#, but that is seriously best guess. Mommy is still with the pups and is looking after them, but has stopped nursing so they are completely eating on their own. Latitia is making very good progress on house breaking but she is not quite there yet. She is crated during the night and during the work day and she keeps it clean and dry.

Latitia has a short black/tan and white coat and wonderfully pricked ears. We think Latitia is part Kelpie but what she is mixed with is anybody’s guess. Most of the dogs from the area have at least a bit of herding dog in their family tree and DNA testing shows 20 or more breeds, often including shepherd, lab, Chihuahua or husky.

The early months are when puppy learns the social skills needed to be a skilled dog in dealing with other dogs and a good citizen in the human world. Adopters should be committed to getting puppy into lots of new and different human social situations, hearing vacuums, trucks, and rattling garbage cans, meeting people who are clapping, laughing, with hats, tools, bikes and skate boards. AND puppy needs many opportunities to meet and greet dogs of all shapes, sizes and dispositions. Just sharing a home with another dog is not as much doggie socializing as puppy needs. If good canine social skills are not learned and maintained during these early months, it will be very difficult to ever master them. Puppy play dates, trips to the pet store, puppy socialization classes and later, obedience classes are particularly important. If all this doggie time and involvement seems like a good idea, you are up for a puppy! As always, a tired dog is a good dog.

Latitia has been vet checked, wormed and had three routine vaccinations. She will need rabies at the owner’s expense. The $375 adoption fee (check or cash) includes the cost of pup’s required spay/neuter at 6 months of age provided it is done by one of the PUP vets. We do place puppies outside the metro area but a plan for the required spay/neuter must be in place. We do not ship.

If you are at least 21 years old and everyone in your household is on board with adopting a puppy, CALL 651-645-4370 between 7:00 am and 9:30 pm and we will return your call within 24 hours. If you elect to contact us via e-mail it may take several weeks for us to get back to you. Renters must provide proof that you are allowed to have a puppy. Please be prepared to provide a vet reference prior to adoption.
