The adoption fee is waived for Puff and ALL Desperate Housecats!

Puff was found abandoned in an apartment with a cat friend. He is very shy and likes to hide at times, but he can also be very affectionate once he gets to know you, though it will take time and patience! Puff really seems to rely on the comfort of his fellow felines, so he needs to go to a home with other cats. Since he is shy, we have placed him in our Cactus Cat program to help him build confidence and make friends more easily. He can also learn social, confident behaviors from his more outgoing feline roommates in the Cactus Cat room. Puff may take some time getting used to a new place, so a cat-savvy, patient adopter with a quiet home would be the best fit.

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Please note, Adoption and Pet Resource Center lines close at 6:00 p.m. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.
