My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello my name is Kendra. I am seeking my forever home. Might it be with you? I have lived with my foster parents and foster siblings since August 2023. I traveled from Alabama to Illinois. In Alabama I caught a parasite that made me very sick. I am all better now but I must take one medication twice a day for the next 12-15 months. If you saw me chase and wrestle with my foster doggy brother you would never know I had been sick. I love playing ball with my foster dad. He is my favorite! I love my foster mom too. I am a teensy tiny bit skittish around her, but getting better all the time. Now I am 90% loving her but I love my foster dad and my foster doggy brother best! I think it’s because my foster dad has a much softer voice than foster mom! When foster mom washes my paws after a long walk, she uses a soft voice and it calms me. I am so amazing at chasing and catching the balls my foster dad and mom toss in the backyard. I am an expert at catching the balls in midair! My foster mom says I am a great candidate for a doggy obstacle course. I love going on my daily one mile walks. When I see the squirrels, ducks and geese, I want to chase them. If I see another dog I sometimes bark and always want to chase them. My foster mom feels that I would be a great match in a home without another doggy. An awesome forever dad would be a big plus. I get along famously with my foster siblings but I don’t like it when my human foster sister brings the grand-doggy over to visit. I am very talkative when my foster mom is microwaving my food. She feeds me three time a day! I eat white fish and Salmon wet food mixed with a dry Salmon and Sweet Potato Small Breed dry kibble. I also eat salmon jerky and fruit based cookies. I love to squeaky talk with my foster dad when we are playing ball outside or when I want him to toss me the squeaky toys inside the house. I love my squeaky toys! They make the same sound I make when I talk! If you want to meet me, please know that I will be shy and perhaps a bit afraid. I am not used to strangers but I am sure if you love me and give me treats, I will grow to love you!

More about this rescue

We are in need of Foster Homes for our homeless animals!!! Can you help?

What is a Foster Home?
A foster home takes in one of our homeless animals rather than boarding them at the kennel and cares for it until we find a permanent loving home. Almost Home Foundation pays for the all animal's food and medical expenses. The foster home learns the animal's temperament and behaviors. The foster home learns if they get along with other animals. The foster home provides insights on the animals that helps Almost Home Foundation look for the right home for the animal.

Please help!! Just fill out this form and we will contact you or call 630-582-3738 and leave a message letting us know that you are interested in fostering!

We are an all-volunteer, registered, not-for-profit 501c3 animal rescue group. Our mission is to save adoptable dogs and cats from being destroyed by finding permanent, loving homes. For details, visit us online at www.almosthomefoundation.org.

Almost Home Foundation is always looking for volunteers to handle dogs at adoption shows, set up adoption shows, write for the newsletter, photograph events, or foster animals. For a list of opportunities, visit online at www.volunteermatch.org
or www.almosthomefoundation.org.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
We are a Rescue not a Shelter. This simply means we do not own a building where we house animals. We look for loving foster homes that will give temporary care and love on the animal’s journey to a permanent, loving home. When a foster home is not available, we will board the animal at a boarding kennel.

Our 5-year goal is to have a shelter. This is an aggressive goal that will take many donations and memberships. We will strive for this goal with a great team of volunteers and help from people like you! Please become a member, become a sponsor or make a donation.

Our animals are found strayed and brought in from the police. After being held for 7 days, we evaluate the temperament of the animal and determine if the animal is suitable to be a pet. On rare occasion, we will also rescue animals that are in desperate situations where the rescue makes the difference between life and death. We do not accept Owner Give-ups.
