Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hello, my name is Dexter. I am an approximately 2-year-old, 65 lb., blue male Weimaraner. I have
been neutered, given all my vaccines, heartworm negative and started on monthly prevention. My
entire life until now I have only known a caged outdoor life. Everything is new to me. I MEAN
EVERYTHING! Before coming to LWR, I did not have a name and my only purpose was to make
puppies. I am now in a foster home outside of Louisville and looking for my forever home.
My foster Mom doesn’t think I have had human affection because I’m very afraid of people. It took a
couple days for me to feel comfortable enough to allow human touch. The foster family treats me as
one of their own. I have four fur siblings that have helped me learn how to enjoy all this affection. I
have NEVER once showed any aggression. Since everything is new to me, I am very nervous. I will
run away from the area when I get startled. When the fly zapper makes a zap noise, I take off to the
other room. I don’t like anyone to raise their voice at me, it scares me. I am not the best with car
rides, but I am working on that along with all these other things. My foster Mom works from home, so I
am out of a crate during the day. I started out sleeping in the crate at night and whenever my family
was gone. Now I sleep spooned up to my foster Dad. He is so cuddly. I usually only go in the crate
when they are leaving the house. I don't bark or cry when I am in there. Toys and treats are
something new. I’m not quite understanding why my foster Mom is always trying to push my butt
down while she says “sit”, before she gives me the treat that I have grown to love. I love shoes of all
types with my favorite being crocs. I have destroyed my foster Mom’s house shoes. My name and the
word "No" are all that I understand right now, but my foster family is working with me on basic
commands. However, this will take some time as I am still nervous and would rather scurry away
without the treat. It doesn’t help that my fur siblings are obnoxious when it comes to getting treats. I
love getting hugs and kisses, and I hear that I am soooo soft. It will take me time to get accustomed
to a new family, I am afraid when I meet new people and will hide if I can. My foster Mom feels like I
hold a little grudge for a while after new people try to pet me because I ignore her for a while. “She
thinks she can find me a new home, but she has another thing coming”. HEHEHE
Previously I was an outside dog only. Being in a house was very scary but now I love it. I long for a
forever home that fits me. I need a fenced yard. I won’t try to get out the door but if I do get out by
accident, I will run like the wind. My foster Mom and Dad learned this about me last week. I gave
them a workout in the woods. My foster Mom loves to exercise but she wasn’t happy about this
workout and was saying bad words to herself. I love to cuddle and play outside with you. I live with 1
male Weim, 3 female Weims, 1 Bulldog, and a tiny dog who is very obnoxious. We have 13 chickens
running around the yard, 2 baby goats, 1 adult goat, two Rams, and 4 cats, both indoor and out. Oh,
and there is a little guy (2.5-year-old) that comes over a lot, I hear him call my foster parents, memaw
and papaw. He’s very bossy and tells us to stay out of the living room when he is here. I don’t pay
much attention to him. I’d rather be with my big humans. I don’t get rowdy in the house, but when I’m
outside I love to run.
I have no food aggression. I was marking in the house often when I first came here, but I’m learning
that I’m not supposed to do this in the house. I have never pooped in the house. I like to sleep on the
couch or lay in my crate (door open) during the day. My foster Mom usually chooses names after her
favorite Disney characters, but this time she was binging on Dexter (yes, the serial killer) and couldn’t
resist choosing this name for me. I love it and I learned it quickly.
It will take some time for me to warm up during a meet and greet but my foster Mom says we will do
everything we can to make sure I find a family who are patient and understanding of me. I am being
fostered in the Louisville area. If you are looking for a dog that is loving, loyal, and happy, please
complete an application at louisvilleweimrescue.com and one of the LWR volunteers will be in
contact. I’m looking forward to meeting you!
