Here's what the humans have to say about me:
CHICA (OH) - COMING SOON in Harrodsburg, KY
Meet beautiful Chica. This girl has just the sweetest disposition. She is shy at first, but when she warms up she is a total lovebug. She will snuggle on your lap and loves pets and kisses.
We are unsure of her history, but there is definitely reason to believe that she has had a bad experience with a man, or men, at some point in her young life. Chica is very fearful of her foster dad, running and hiding from anxiety when he walks in the room, even after he offers treats and a calm, quiet interaction. She will let him pet her only if she is in her foster mom’s lap. She really wants to let him close, but her panic takes over. She didn't shy away from female friends at all when they visited, and went right to them and let them love on her. She would probably do best in a home with only females. Her foster mom thinks she would be fine with older children, but small children move too fast for her.
Chica is GREAT with other dogs and would do best with a friendly, confident dog brother or sister in her new home to help her with her anxiety and to show her that (male) people aren’t so bad. She came from a home with other dogs and currently has 2 foster fur siblings - she plays so well with them. Chica doesn't pester her fur sisters and has absolutely zero resource or food guarding. She has never growled or barked at them. Chica will watch chickens but really is not that interested in them. She has not been tested with cats.
Chica walks like a dream on the leash. She uses a doggie door and is housetrained. Her foster family is working on crate training and she sleeps all night in a crate without a peep. She is doing better, but does have some anxiety when in the crate during the day. She is not scared of loud noises like thunderstorms, lawn mowers, or gunshots (from a neighboring farm). She acts like she doesn’t even hear them.
Chica is just over 16 months old (DOB 4/14/22) and weighs about 50 pounds. She is spayed, UTD on all of her vaccines, microchipped, and has had a yearlong heartworm vaccine. She is being fostered in Harrodsburg, Ky.
If Chica sounds like the girl for you, please fill out an application at australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application.
There is a $20 microchip fee which includes registration and transfer to Chica’s new family. All adoption fees are used for future rescue efforts.
