Here's what the humans have to say about me:
The county shelter in Martinez is overcrowded, with more people abandoning & surrendering their pets than adopting out. As a result, dozens of wonderful and incredibly loving dogs are on the list to be euthanized.
Georgie is one of them. A shelter favorite. I spent time with Georgie during one of the "play" groups. "Play" is in quotes because the whole time, Georgie just wanted to stand beside a human and be petted. He would go from person to person, just waiting for some love. Once he got it, he was content to just stay next to that person the whole time.
Georgie is calm and gentle, a fantastic representative for the breed. He is great with other dogs, as you can see from the videos, but his true love would be a human. If you're looking for a mellow dog, a loyal companion who will quietly and steadily adore you, please consider Georgie. His time is running out -- as is the case with so many dogs at the shelter.
(Prefer a younger, more active, playful dog? The shelter has some amazing ones! They have adoption counselors to help you select the best fit for your lifestyle.)

---------- SHELTER FACTS ----------
"There must be something wrong with the dog if he ended up at the shelter."
Absolutely untrue! Most pets who end up at the shelter are there through no fault of their own. The reality is that some people simply view their pets as disposable property. Others come across unexpected life challenges that make caring for their pet too difficult, and feel they have no other recourse.
"Nothing is known about the dogs in the shelter. I don't want to risk it."
The modern day Martinez shelter isn't like your old school shelters from back in the day. Staff and volunteers spend a lot of time with many of the dogs. Meticulous notes are kept on their behavior and temperament. The information given on the dog's online profile is minimal mostly due to a lack of volunteers having enough time to write an extensive bio for each dog. But if you call or visit the shelter, most likely the counselors can provide you with more info.
"I don't know how a shelter dog is going to do in my home."
That's true for ANY dog, whether they come from the shelter or not. Even dogs coming straight from another home will have an adjustment period while they settle in to their new environment and come to understand what their new people wants from them. A dog in my home may not act the same right away when he goes to your home simply because the environment, schedule and people are different. Whether they come from a shelter or not makes little difference.
"There are so many dogs at the shelter. I'm overwhelmed with trying to pick the right one."
The Martinez shelter has adoption counselors that personally know many of the dogs and who can help you select the dog that will best fit your lifestyle.
"I love dogs (and/or cats) but can't commit long-term."
The Martinez shelter has wonderful fostering opportunities. Even if you can only commit for a few days once in a while! And you can choose the dog you want to foster. Foster info: https://www.contracosta.ca.gov/6730/Animal-Foster-Programs
