My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hey there, I’m Carter, and I’ve been waiting at this shelter since July—way longer than I ever imagined. I came in with a buddy who’s already found a home, and while I was so happy for them, I can’t help but wonder… why not me? I’m a 4-year-old German Shepherd with so much love to give, just waiting for my chance to show it. I’m learning to make new friends, and though it’s not always easy, I’m doing my best because I believe there`s someone out there who will love me for who I am.
I’m not asking for much. Just a kind person who’ll take me on long walks, play with my favorite toys, and maybe—just maybe—take me on a hike to explore the world together. I dream of feeling the grass beneath my paws, smelling fresh mountain air, and having a human by my side, showing me that life can be full of joy outside these walls.
I don’t know why I’m still here, but I do know this: I have so much love to give. If you give me a chance, I promise to fill your life with loyalty, affection, and plenty of goofy moments. I’m ready to leave this shelter behind and start a new chapter with you—my forever person. All I need is for someone to see me, to take a chance, and I’ll be your best friend for life. Let’s make that happen, okay?

More about this shelter

Volunteers needed now. Are you an animal lover, do you have a couple of hours each week to volunteer? Many opportunities available. Work with dogs, cats, bunnies, office work, fostering and more. For more details on volunteering contact Michelle Maltun at (805) 345-5741.

We care for stray and homeless animals, including cats, kittens, dogs, puppies, rabbits and other animals such as chickens, guinea pigs or iguanas. We always hope the family will come to reclaim their lost pet, but if not, we work to find a loving new family for them.

We ensure that dogs are current on their rabies vaccination and license.

At Animal Services, our goal is to ensure that all the animals in our County have a safe place to live. We work hard to find loving homes for the many dogs, cats, rabbits and other animals that come into our care. Together, with community partners and concerned citizens, we are making sure that all these animals have a "Forever Home!"
