My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Gordy!

Age: 5 years

Breed: Black Bully Mix

Arrived: July 29, 2023

Gordy is a sweet and smart bully mix who’s currently enjoying life in a foster home. He’s a well-rounded dog who gets along with other pets and is ready to find a forever family.

Personality:

Leash Skills: Gordy did pull during his walks but was responsive to verbal direction. He is gentle when taking treats and knows commands like sit, shake/paw, and come.

Interaction with Children: He did not engage with children but is not bothered by them.

Dog Interaction: Gordy is not bothered by other dogs and was not reactive to them. He also ignored strangers and did not attempt to chase small animals or wildlife.

Treat Motivation: He is gentle with treats and listens well to commands.

Foster Home Experience: Gordy currently lives in a foster home with multiple cats, which he ignores. He also has occasional visits from another dog without any issues.

Playgroup Behavior:

Gentle and Dainty: In playgroup, Gordy is gentle and dainty, showing selectivity with other dogs.

Some Play: He engages in some play but has assertive tendencies.

Handler Steering: He can be hard for handlers to steer but is generally responsive to guidance.

Looking For:
Gordy would thrive in a home where he can enjoy regular walks and playtime with other pets. His sweet and smart nature makes him a great companion for a loving family.

More about this shelter

Marion County Animal Services is the largest animal shelter in our county. Operating as a no-kill shelter, our kennels are almost always full. We provide adoption, fostering opportunities, work with rescues, accept volunteers and provide the training for veterinary assisting students. In addition, we run the Neuter Commuter and provide all animal control services in Marion County.
Due to the sheer volume of animals in our care, we need lots of help from our community in our effort to adopt out more and save more!
We don't only accept the ideal animals into our shelter. We can offer you quite the array of animal breeds and personalites! Keep an open mind when visiting our shelter- you may find that your perfect match is not at all what you set out to find.
We're here to help you as well as our homeless and lovable animals.
