More About Apache
Thanks to Dave from Seattle, Washington, who is a most generous sponsor, Apache will receive his funding for his heartworm treatment. This dog has never had the benefit of a happy life and we intend to rectify that.
He tested positive for heartworms and hookworms today at the vet when he arrived for his neuter (which had to be postponed). He is being treated for the hookworms now, then will need the heartworm treatment.
Apache is a dog that truly needs a wonderful forever home. He has not had a very happy life, but is a real trooper.
He was dropped off at one of our foster mom's homes early one morning. He is approximately 6 years old. The man surrendering him heard about foster mom from a friend.
The story she was told was this: the previous owner tied him to a dog box way out in a field away from the house. All the previous owners did for this dog was throw it food. The son of the man that dropped Apache off felt bad for the dog and asked the owner for it. I guess after owning the dog for some time the son started doing the same thing, ignoring him and acting like feeding him was a chore. The parents intervened and told their son he had to rehome it. The son made no effort whatsoever, so his dad brought the dog to rescue, which is a good thing.
Our dogs are afforded veterinarian care and an exam. Apache saw a veterinarian, probably for the first time in his life Monday, June 21, 2010. He was vaccinated for Rabies, DHPP, Bordetello, heartworm tested (POSITIVE), had his stool checked (hookworms) and will be neutered once he is recovered.
Although this dog had a lonely life combined with a miserable existence, he is a sweet boy and really energetic. He loves the two small children at the foster mom's. He got along great with with another dog he had come to know, but may not like all dogs. He seems very happy go lucky right now.
The first step in adopting Apache is to request an application via email to aospca@verizon.net.
Only those with a fenced in yard (or willing to commit to invisible fencing) and real love in their hearts need apply for this guy. He will be placed with the intention he has finally found a furever home.
Please help us help Apache. This dog deserves a chance at a happy home.
Apache is up-to-date with routine shots and spayed/neutered.
