My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

*PLEASE NOTE: Before any adoption is to take place we require all questions below to be answered and we then setup a zoom call with prospective adopters. Ruby is located in Bakersfield. If you are able to come to Bakersfield that is a plus. If not we travel a 100 mile radius to bring a dog to their new home. That includes all of Kern County, Tulare County, Fresno County, and part of Los Angeles Please we strenuously request that you do NOT submit an inquiry for adoption if you are unable to adopt because you have a vacation or other commitment. We have limited time and resources so please inquiry after you are back.

Meet Zoe!

Zoe is an incredibly sweet 18 month old girl who is a mix of Poodle and Yorkie with a beautiful non-shedding coat of apricot and white. She weighs about 14 pounds is young and athletic.

Zoe needs a home filled with lots of love and tenderness because her first 18 months were not the kind of 18 months a young dog should have had. She was adopted at 8 weeks old by her former owner who was giving her up because she was moving to Texas with her son who got a job transfer. The new housing would not allow dogs and she also said that Zoe gets upset in the car and that she did not want to put her through being in a car to get to Texas. As exhausting as the claim of "I'm moving and can't take the dog with me" is, what was even worse was finding out that Zoe was never walked in her first 18 months and only ever stayed in the apartment and saw only the woman and her daughter.

Because of this Zoe is very shy when you first meet her but she does warm up pretty quickly. We have also never encountered any car stress with her. The worst she does is want to sit on you so she is the kind of dog who should have her own car seat. She is in private foster care with other dogs and cats and is fine but she is mostly just human fixed. She quickly becomes a velcro dog and wants to go where you go. For a dog who was never walked on a leash she is a GREAT leash walker. She is going on two walks a day with the other dogs and acts like she has been walked always. Some sharp sounds will scare her but she is adjusting to all the new stimulus. . She has also been to Walmart and Starbucks for socialization. She is always nervous at first but it isn't long before she seems to like it. She is housebroken and will use wee wee pads and does not make any mistakes in the house. We are working on transitioning her to going outside. For a dog like Zoe repetition is the key to mastery.

Zoe has started to go in the backyard at her foster home on her own which she did not do at first and is learning to go with the natural dog inclination to explore. The kind of home that would be best for her is someone who is either retired or works from home and will be able to walk her at least once a day. As she is accustomed to apartment life she is fine with living in an apartment as long as her new human keeps socializing her and walking her. She is fine with other animals but it is not imperative that she have another dog.

Her adoption fee includes:

1. Spay
2. All updated vaccines (DAPP, Rabies and Bordatella)
3. Microchip
4. One month flea and tick treatment
5. New harness and leash
6. Starter food

Her adoption fee is $450.

As we prescreen via email ONLY (we do NOT make or receive phone calls in the pre-screening phase) please tell us a bit about you such as:
1. Your lifestyle, activity level and work schedule.
2. Area you live in and if it is a house or apartment. (Please indicate city)
3. How many adults, children and pets in the household.
4. Where your pet stays when you are out or at work.
5. Where your pet will sleep.
6. Dog breed experience
7. Have you ever had to give up a pet
8. If you do not currently have a pet how you will keep Zoe socialized with other dogs

Some notes to consider before applying for Zoe:
1. Zoe is a 1 1/2 year old young dog. Please make sure that everyone is on board and ready for the responsibility of a young dog. Although she is housebroken adjusting to a new home she may have an accident.
2. Please make sure you are ready to adopt before coming to see our adoptable dogs. We are a foster based rescue and do not have the space to hold dogs for a couple of weeks while you vacation or make your way to California to come and adopt. We will adopt out of state but ONLY if the potential adopter comes here to adopt in person and that is after a screening by Skype. WE DO NOT SHIP DOGS EVER.
3. We are often inundated with emails about our adoptable dogs and try as we might to make everyone happy it is nearly impossible with only one dog and sometimes up to 50 potential families. The more information you provide in your email to us the quicker we will get back to you. If you have written to us before about a particular dog and did not receive a response please do try again. We try to answer every email but it is not always possible. Every dog has different home requirements that we search for so sometimes you are the right fit for the dog we are trying to place.
4. PLEASE do NOT send more than one email. It slows down the process.
5. We do not make appointments for people to just come "see" the dogs available. They are in private foster homes and we go through a pre-screening process before any appointments are made.

Thank you for choosing to adopt!
