NOTE: Forest must be adopted with Casper
Forest is a sweet 2-year-old, 20-lb. rare blue-coated chihuahua who came into our rescue with his 8-year-old brother Casper after their family could no longer care for them. They lived with their family their whole lives. Forest and Casper are bonded and must be adopted together. Forest is very overweight and was just diagnosed with hypothyroidism and pancreatitis while in the rescue and has started on an inexpensive medication. Hypothyroidism is a common hormone imbalance in dogs and has caused weight gain and some hair loss in Forest. Both of these symptoms should improve with medication and he can live a normal, healthy life with a normal life expectancy. Pancreatitis is managed with a low-fat, non-prescription diet. Despite being overweight, Forest is extremely playful and has lots of energy. It is fun to see his playful and curious personality come out more each day. When his foster mom throws a ball, he excitedly runs after it and enjoys chasing after his foster mom. If you are in search of a little gentle love bug, Forest will be perfect for you. He is less confident than his brother so he takes a bit longer to warm up, but within a few days he is already much more comfortable and showing how playful and appreciative of a dog he is. You can tell he is very smart and will be an amazing companion to whoever takes the time to make him feel safe. Forest is house trained and pee-pad trained, is friendly with all people and other dogs and previously lived with a cat. He walks well on a leash and harness. He does well during thunderstorms. His new family will need to keep him on thyroid meds and a low-fat diet forever. Forest’s weight should begin to reduce with the meds also, with his normal weight being around 12-15 lbs. If you live in the Central Florida (Orlando) area and think you have the perfect home for Forest and Casper, please complete one of their apps and tell us more about you.
