Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Toby’s Backstory:
Toby arrived into our care severely matted and traumatized by a human toddler who wasn’t taught how to approach and be respectful to a puppy. Toby needs a family to step up and show him how wonderful humans can be!
Breed and Hair Notes:
Toby has hair that grows and not fur. He is a stunning Shih Tzu and a blend of other hair-not-fur cousins. His brown nose and cream hair is rare and adds to his specialness. He is agreeable to hair trims and is patient with our professional groomer who gave him a sweet summer haircut. PLEASE NOTE: his hair will grow indefinitely, and he will need professional grooming every 4-6 weeks. Only apply if you understand the additional maintenance and cost that these dear hair-not-fur souls need and are willing to commit to life for such care.
Get to Know Toby:
Toby is only about 8 months old, and he weighs approximately 16 pounds. He is sweet, fun, cuddly, and so playful! He is currently being taught to go potty indoors on potty pads. He goes potty outside, too. He is smart, and he can be trained depending upon where you’d like him to go potty. Toby has a lot of puppy energy, but he also wants to be calm and cuddled like a baby at times. He is currently in one of our foster homes with other dogs and cats, and he gets along with everyone. Despite this, he prefers being around people above everything else. He is ready to be your constant companion, and he is craving to have his people in his life as soon as possible.
Ideal Home:
Toby is a puppy. He is smart and is wants direction. His new family needs to be ready to go to training classes with Toby. Not only will this help Toby become the gentleman that he is, going to classes together will only deepen your connection to him. Besides that, it’s fun!
If you expect to put Toby in a crate at all during the day or night, please do not apply. Toby will flourish in a home where he can hang out with his people during the day and sleep with them at night. He is a PUPPY, and puppies should never be left at home for long periods of time. People who work from home most of the time or retired people with lots of energy and desire for daily walks are an ideal match.
Toby can successfully be in a home where he is the only dog, provided he continues to get socialization by going on daily walks and meeting/being around other dogs. He currently lives in a foster home with multiple dogs and cats, so he can also be in a home with other gentle animals. He should not be in a home with young children, given his recent trauma and experience from being mishandled by a toddler. Only respectful teenagers and adults should be in his family.
Are you ready to be the lifetime family Toby deserves? If so, we look forward to receiving your adoption application!
