RESCUE STORY: Every so often we come across an unfortunate situation and we are compelled to help. It is not abandonment or neglect; it is simply a loving pet owner that can no longer care for their pet. We are so happy when they reach out to us so that we may help find the pup a new, loving home instead of being turned into a shelter where, sadly, their fate is commonly not a good one.

Turning in a dog is by no means easy on the human, but the dog also goes through a lot of stress and feelings of loss. They just don’t understand why they were taken from their home and their people. Mystic is going through this right now, and we are in search of new people for her, people who will be just as lucky to get her as she is them.

PERSONALITY: Mystic is a beautiful Plot Hound Mix with silky brindle fur that looks like a tiger, and a delightful personality to boot! Foster mom says she is super sweet and very smart. Mystic is young and energetic and would absolutely love a young couple to hike with or a family with children to play with (we ALWAYS stress, however, that young children and dogs should never be left unsupervised for the safety of both).

ABOUT THE BREED: When it comes to the personality, the Plott Hounds are confident, courageous and bright dogs. In addition to it, their kind nature attracts the attention of the people. Hounds are one of the most popular breeds in the USA because they are loyal, loving, affectionate and patient, making great family dogs. Plott Hounds will defend their owners from perceived threats. And early socialization is imperative to prevent this trait from getting out of hand. This breed is also fantastic watchdogs. Plott Hounds are incredibly brave. They were bred to hunt massive animals such as bears, so they will not back down from any person or dog no matter the size.

The Hounds are known to fit perfectly into family life with its sweet, peaceful and gentle nature. These dogs are well behaved and always friendly. They are not aggressive to people and other animals. They will happily welcome your guests with a tail wag. This breed is just as happy lounging around the house. They are extremely affectionate with all the family members and have an average activity level.

The Plott Hound has a curious and playful temperament. Firstly, these dogs are loyal and smart. Moreover, they love to please their people and be along with them every-time possible. Overall, the Plott Hounds are people-oriented dogs that behave very well with their family members. Though the Plott Hounds are loyal and affectionate with their people, they are somewhat wary of strangers. And they are likely to bark at them at first. But when properly introduced, they get along very quickly. Lastly, the independent and stubborn nature of them play a huge role while training.

CHILDREN: Yes, the Plott Hounds have a good reputation when it comes to dealing with kids. However, these dogs are better with older children who know how to treat dogs better. And this means they are not suited for younger kids. These dogs can become very possessive of their food items. To conclude, the Plott Hounds are only recommended for families with older children.

WHY THE PLOTT HOUND? The Plott Hound is a fabulous pet for dog savvy owners. The Plott Hound temperament makes it a challenging choice for beginners, but if you are an experienced guardian and you are looking for a fiercely loyal companion, the Plott Hound might be the dog for you.

Mystic had a loving owner and is now in search of a new forever home to call her own. If you think Mystic might be the right addition to your family, please give her a chance. She is such a wonderful girl!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Rescue Dog Village Guardian, Inc dogs are boarded and placed in foster homes until permanent, loving homes are found. We do not have a facility to visit - our dogs stay in private foster homes until adopted. We do our best to get to know each dog in our care so that we may be able to match them to the home best suited for their needs.

If you see a dog that you are interested in adopting, the process is as follows:

Step 1: The Application
Fill out an application. Each prospective owner fills out an adoption application. We usually have no history of our rescue dogs and are therefore very careful about placing them in households with children.

You will need to provide employer information, explain why you want the dog, and describe your yard, your other pets and your former pets, if any.

Step 2: Vet Check
Provide a veterinarian reference.
MUST:
•Call your vets office and give them permission to speak to us.
----If one of our volunteers contacts your vets office and they do not have permission to speak to us, it will hold up processing your application or result in closing it due to the volume of applicants we receive daily.

• Provide all information about your vet
----name
----address
----phone number.

We respect and value our volunteer’s time and they do NOT HAVE TIME TO LOOK UP YOUR VETS INFORMATION. We appreciate your help and respect to make sure we have all the information we need.

NEVER OWNED A DOG OR DO NOT HAVE A CURRENT VET REFERENCE:
If you've never gone to one before, you will need to provide a reference. The group will contact them to ask about your ability to care for a pet.

Step 3: The Home Visit
Your application will be reviewed and sent to a volunteer in your area. The volunteer will contact you to schedule a home visit within one week.

We require that everyone in the immediate family, including your current dog (if you have one) come to the appointment to meet your potential new dog. Adopting a dog is a big family decision and requires a commitment from everyone. If you currently own a dog, it must be up to date on shots, spayed/neutered and wear an i.d. tag.

Dogs from animal shelters can be amazing escape artists. By visiting your home, we can help you identify potential escape routes, and keep your new dog safe and secure.

Step 3: The Adoption
Before you bring your new dog home, you must sign an adoption contract with Rescue Dog Village Guardian, Inc.

Please remember that adoption contributions barely cover our expenses. Additional donations are greatly appreciated and will help us continue our life-saving work.

IF ANYTHING PREVENTS YOU FROM KEEPING YOUR DOG
Sometimes situations arise which cannot be helped. If, for any reason, you are unable to keep a dog you’ve adopted from Rescue Dog Village Guardian, Inc, the dog cannot be given away.

It doesn’t matter how much time has passed since the adoption. You must either return the dog to Rescue Dog Village Guardian, Inc, or obtain approval from RDVG to transfer ownership to a friend or relative.

If you and the dog you would like to adopt seem to be well matched, we will respond to your application by email. Feel free to contact us at any time regarding the status of your application.
