My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

An amazing companion!

I’m Mama Malibu, and I’m a 3-year-old Lab mix female, weighing in at 43 pounds.  I recently had a litter of puppies, but I’ve been a gal-on-the-go ever since!  I’ve already been spayed, and my health is in tip-top shape. I’ve mastered potty-training, and my leash manners and crate-training are currently a work in progress.

My foster mama says I’m the sweetest girl with so much love to give to the right family! I’m a pretty active girl, and I love playing tug and fetch, cuddling, going on car rides, and learning new tricks.  However, I also know when to chill out and relax when given the proper cues.  I love other doggie friends – maybe too much! – but I’m working on learning how to calm myself down when being introduced.  Kitties are probably a no for me, and I think older kids who respect my boundaries would be just fine.

Something that I’m working on is my fear-based reactivity, which presents itself as barking at strangers.  I can also be slow to trust, but once you’ve earned it from me, I will shower you with endless cuddles and kisses.

I think I’d best be suited for an active young woman or couple without kids or other doggies.  I’d benefit from some additional training, too, so I’d love to be with someone who is patient and willing to invest the time, energy, and love into me.  With structure, guidance, and mental stimulation, I can become the best girl I can be!

My adoption fee is $350 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip.  If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We prioritize local San Diego applicants. We do not provide transport of dogs to other states, and don't allow the dogs to fly in the cargo of the plane.
Our adoption process from start to finish, involves 3 standard forms, and 2 situational.
All potential applicants must be capable of providing their adopted pet with routine and emergency veterinary care (yearly health checks, keeping vaccinations current, heartworm/flea preventatives, and immediate care in the event the animal is sick or injured). They are required to license their pet, and keep an identification tag on their pet at all times.
All applicants must agree to a home check, and provide us with a veterinary reference, or personal references if you're a first-time pet owner. Our home checks are not to invade the privacy of the applicants, we do this to ensure the pet is going into a safe home. We do not discriminate against non-homeowners, or those living in apartments, condos, or otherwise.
Our adoption fees vary from $150-1000.
Applicants must agree in writing that if for any reason they are unable to keep or care for their pet, the pet will be surrendered back to our rescue and not re-homed, turned over to a shelter, pound, rescue, new owner, sold, etc.

More about this rescue

Overview
The Animal Pad is a nonprofit, all-breed dog rescue devoted to saving the lives of dogs facing euthanasia at high kill animal shelters and off the streets of Mexico. We rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home locally.

We are dedicated to animal advocacy, and educating dog owners on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. We are a foster based rescue, and rely heavily on the kindness and generosity of the amazing people who make donations toward the rescue and care of the dogs we save.

We are always looking for adopters, fosters, donations, volunteers, etc.. Please let us know if you would like to get involved by contacting us at one of the email addresses found below.
