My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Baby Groot and Rocket

Somebody “donated” a cat tree to the Lancaster Animal Shelter over the July 21, 2023, weekend. The Shelter was closed, but when a volunteer found the tree on Monday, she also found a kitten in it. She feared the kitten was already dead, but when she poked it, it moved! Cat tree + tiny kitten = how our Guardians of the Galaxy rescue got his Baby Groot name.

Groot’s teeth development indicates a July 4, 2023, birthday, but he was so malnourished and dehydrated he was incredibly small. The fun part is now that we got some fluids and calories in him, we have this active, tiny kitten with all of the motor abilities of an older kitten. So our under 200 gram banshee, with no idea how small he is, attacks the older fosters like it’s a fair fight. Needless to say, Groot is precious.

Rocket is a beautiful black and gray tabby. He came to us one day before we got Baby Groot. Although he is nearly twice the size of Baby Groot, we are also figuring his birthday to be July 4, 2023.

God blessed the broken road that brought Rocket to our rescue. He was found alone by a kind man who fed him cow’s milk – yep, lots of kitten diarrhea. Once the kind man realized he had no idea what he was doing, he handed Rocket off to a kind friend who works in a research lab. When she figured out it was a bad idea to bring a kitten to work at a research lab, she called Cheryl. And then the next morning, Rocket woke up in the foster room with Baby Groot as a playmate and snuggle buddy. And now the boys have no idea they are not brothers.

Groot and Rocket seem to be a natural pairing, so, for now, we will only accept applications to adopt them together. We are strong proponents for adopting two bonded kittens together. Two kittens keep each other company when you are at work or away, and they also burn off a lot of energy you don’t have to deal with. The adoption fee is $225 for both kittens and covers FIV/FeLV testing, deworming, vaccinations, and neutering with a partner vet.

To set up a visit, drop me a note at cherylsferalsandfosters@gmail.com or PM me. If you are considering adopting, please fill out and submit the adoption contract found in The Adoption Process link on my website (cherylsferalsandfosters.com). In the meantime, you can follow their journey on Facebook: Cheryl’s Ferals and Fosters Chat Group. We are a non-profit 501(c)(3).
