Update: May 14, 2010 Maisie is now ready to find her very special forever home.
No longer a baby, 6 month old Maisie is evolving from the cute puppy stage into the beautiful young collie one. She's learned a great deal since coming to her foster home and has become fast friends with the resident golden retriever. Her relationship with her canine foster sister is a very special one. Maisie looks to the older dog to be her mentor, teaching her and helping her assess situations, as well as serving as her protector and comforter when Maisie becomes frightened. Because Maisie still shows fear in some situations, her forever home should include another dog who will mentor her as her golden retriever friend has. A tall fence is also a must so that she does not bolt when something frightens her.
Maisie has worked hard on channeling her energy. She does well with the resident cats, but her desire to chase and grab small animals means that her ideal forever home should not have them.
Obedience classes which use positive reinforcement techniques and continued socialization will help Maisie continue the progress she's made on conquering her fears and becoming a good member of the pack.
Description: Don't fall in love just with this pup's pretty face. With Maisie you also get a sweet collie girl who lives life to the fullest. She loves to go, go, go, so her foster family walks her several times each day and plays fetch with her to channel her energy. In her spare time, Maisie then tumbles around with her golden retriever foster sister.
For Maisie, all in a day's fun may also include herding her human brother, nipping at his heels until he climbs onto a countertop to escape. Or it may mean sailing over a four foot gate to see what's happening on the other side. Due to her energy level, a tendency to bolt when startled by loud noises and because she wants to chase small animals, people and wheels, Maisie's forever home should include a tall fence.
Maisie loves to be the center of attention, so she's looking for a forever family in which she will be the only dog or only has to share the attention with one canine companion. When meeting other dogs, she can be a bit particular about which she likes and which she fears. She also prefers a setting without a lot of activity going on around her.
Maisie is housebroken. She also is crate trained, but at this stage of her young life, she needs consistent oversight to ensure that she doesn't chew inappropriately or let her curiosity lead her into trouble. It's recommended that her forever family include one or more members who can supervise her during the day rather than leave her crated for long periods.
This long, leggy beauty is smart and loves to learn. Her forever family should be willing to focus Maisie's intelligence and drive through group training classes that use positive reinforcement techniques.
If her forever family invests time and effort into training her, this pretty, smart, sweet, playful girl will develop into a beautiful collie companion.
