Here's what the humans have to say about me:
*** Penny is currently in a foster-to-adopt home in Idaho. We are unsure if she will be adopted at this time, but we still encourage you to apply if interested. We can move her to another state for the right home***
PENNY IS ABSOLUTE PERFECTION! We are STUMPED as to why this sweet, gorgeous Pirate girl hasn't had any applications or interest in her! Penny was an owner surrender in the Bay Area CA at about 10 months old. It is obvious to us she had little socialization with people, had been on a leash only a handful of times and was very unsure about herself. 2 months later, she is truly opening up and becoming the best version of herself! She is SWEET, LOVING, FRIENDLY, SILLY, DITZY, SASSY, SPUNKY, STUBBORN AND CLUMSY, all the things a Dogo puppy should be! She just celebrated her FIRST BIRTHDAY and she is hoping she gets the ultimate gift: a forever home
Penny does have a few minor things she is working on. Because she had very minimal exposure to leashes and walking for the majority of her life, we are working on leash manners and being less reactive to dogs on leash. She also has some separation anxiety we are working through and she is learning to stay in her crate without whining. She is such a sweet and stubborn girl but we are making major progress!! She will do BEST with another fur sibling to play and learn with. She will also do best somewhere that she won't need to be crated for more than a couple hours at a time.
??Penny's strengths!! She is GREAT with dogs after a SLOW intro and sniffing through a barrier before playing together. She is GREAT with all people, acts somewhat submissive and then when she feels safe, her goofy personality comes out. She has medium energy level and mostly enjoys playing outside with her fur foster brother than going on walks but she does love walks too. She is a BIG TIME NAPPER! And cuddles She is a puppy that will latch on to you, steal your heart and NEVER leave your side. Penny LOVES kisses and hugs.
Please consider adopting Penny! She is going to make the PERFECT family Dogo. She will challenge you but then she will kiss you and love your forever! Penny's birthday wish is a forever home!!!
Dogos are a wonderful breed but we urge anyone interested to dig in and do a lot of research before deciding if they are a good fit for your home. They require a lot of attention and training with them never ends! Boundaries must be enforced and they often need reminders as they push past boundaires you set! Dogos are loving, kind and gentle but don't mistake that for weakness because they are equally powerful and intense as well! Everyone in the home must be on board with having a dogo and play a major role in their daily routines and training. Yes it is work, but the rewards are ten-fold! Lazy homes don't work for dogos as they need stimulation, exercise, and lots of attention too during their younger years. Our goal in rescue is to be as transparent as we can about each and every dog plus make sure new families really understand the needs of a dogo!
