Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Reggie! This blue merle boy is roughly 5 years old, 30 pounds, neutered, microchipped, and UTD on shots and heart worm. A forehead cowlick and mohawk between his eyes makes him so handsome. He is available for adoption in Plymouth, MA.
Reggie was found on the streets in Springfield a few months ago and was adopted out thru a shelter. After two months, the adopter felt that Reggie became too anxious when her 13 grandchildren visited and he did not care for one of the two dogs in the home. Although the adopter could have returned Reggie to the shelter, the adopter loves Reggie too much to put him thru the stress and reached out to ASF in hopes to find him a better home life.
Reggie does get along with children and dogs. Aka…he cares less about them and would rather walk away. He has been fine with his foster moms nieces (2 and 3) and family dogs when they want to play with him. His foster parents have a cat which he knows to leave alone once he is hissed at.
Reggie loves playing ball. He enjoys chew bones and a nice game of tug of war with his toys. Reggie does not seem to mind wading in water. He really enjoyed sitting with his foster mom on a kayak/paddle board.
Reggie is house and potty trained. He is not destructive to the home when left alone (but be prepared to find his persons shoe or piece of clothing in his bed when back home). Reggie is also amazing during car rides.
Reggie is a low energy dog. He prefers cuddling and being a home body. Reggie walks nicely on leash with the company of other humans/dogs (he tends to be lazy when it’s just him and foster mom).
Reggie does know basic commands such as ‘sit’, ‘paw’, ‘no’, ‘up’, and ‘back’. ‘Come’ is one command his foster parents are working with him on. Some professional training could be beneficial for him.
Reggie’s recall is not that great. I do not think he fully knows his name. He does like to chase squirrels and birds (although I don’t think he’d hurt) so a fenced in yard is preferred.
Reggie is a velcro dog. Therefore, he does have a habit of growling when protecting his person. This occurs more so with men or when someone approaches him when in a confined space. He has gotten better since his foster mom has removed herself from these situations or says ‘no’ firmly.
If Reggie sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please fill out the application.
