Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Dimitri was able to be pulled into rescue on the day he was set to be euthanized. Dimitri is estimated to be around 6 years old, and is a whopping 92 lbs! Dimitri is a BIG boy, but is a giant love bug! He loves to go for a walk, followed by a nice long nap. He tends to use up his energy in quick bursts; either at the beginning of a walk, or a rousing game of chase in the back yard. After getting his energy out, he is happy to just hang out and relax, and has proven himself to be a great supervisor when you are doing yard work. He is very dog friendly with bigger dogs, and would love to have a dog friend in his forever home to hangout and nap with. However, Dimitri needs a very laid-back house mate, as he does have some changes to his spine that makes overactivity very painful for him.
When getting his veterinary exam, it was found that Dimitri has extensive spondylosis down his entire neck and back. This means he has thinning cartilage between each of his vertebrae, which then puts painful pressure on his spinal cord, especially after strenuous play or activity. Dimitri’s condition is well-managed with pain medication, but he will likely need to be on these pain medications the rest of his life. Because of this, he does need a home with no cats or small animals, as Dimitri becomes hyper focused on them, and this overactivity is the kind that causes complications with his condition.
Otherwise, Dimitri is a very well-mannered boy. He does not jump on people (or anything really, he needs a little help getting into taller vehicles because he can't jump), and is very gentle when taking treats and asking for affection. His foster mom has added some things to his diet to try and help his skin heal and his fur grow back in places where it is a little rough. He has already shown great improvement, and we expect he will only continue to feel better now that he has been neutered and had a much needed dental cleaning!
Dimitri is crate trained and doesn't mind spending the night in his kennel (he goes in by himself!) as well as while his humans are out and about during the day.
If you are interested in making Dimitri part of your forever family, you can apply to adopt him at www.lexpitcrew.org/adopt. We will be in touch as soon as possible! His adoption fee is $175.
