My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

7 year old male, sweet, gentle and obedient, does not like strange dogs outside of the home. For this reason he should be kept away from dog parks and kept securely in a harness when out on walks. He is housetrained and crate trained. Sweet = very eager to please, very obedient. Housebroken. Loves to retrieve balls and toys - especially from the water. "Caretaker" of his pack, not dominant at all in his home with dogs he is used to. He likes to keep the other dogs in line and keep their faces clean. He cries / whimpers when one of his packmates is sick or in pain. He even knows when one of his humans is hurting and he gets very upset about this too. Shares his food and water, preferring to wait and eat last. Whe he thinks everyone has had enough, he eats whats left.

He never barks unless he thinks you forgot to let him back inside after a potty break. He once used a dog-door successfully and now waits to be let out. Either works. He bonds with pack members after he gets to know them and he likes to lick them constantly. He plays fetch tirelessly and loves to swim more than any other activity. He especially loves to retrieve a ball from the water, lake, pool or ocean. On walks, he never stops walking or lowers his head to sniff. He just wants to go-go-go. This is partly due to his anxiety about seeing a strange dog. If a strange dog appears off-leash and comes over to you, you must pick JJ uu\re]p immediately to prevent an altercation. His back legs are spindly and he cannot jump very high. He makes it onto the couch but sometimes not. He will be "trapped" on your bed if you do not help him down. He has back aches due to his lousy bone structure and he appreciates a pain med ater a day of fetch on the beach or a long walk. He snores loudly. Great with kids. He's imtimately in touch with his inner-terrier and can hear a mouse burrowing in the ground or under your house. He will hold vigil until he no longer hears it or catches it. He even "points". He chases skunks, no matter how many times they spray him along the way.
This dog is best suited for someone who is not terribly interested in walks - he needs to be exercised in a large backyard chasing a ball, or a quiet swim hole - but his anxiety about strange dogs outdoors causes him to pull constantly and can elicit aggression from other dogs. This fear also causes fence fighting, so he should not be loose in the front yard - fence or no. He does not fit the typical label "dog-aggressive" but because of the tension and fear I would follow all the same rules. He must not escape from your house because he will run scared and will not return - not because he doesnt want to, but because he will be too busy worrying about other dogs. He would prefer in-home care if you go on vacation but he can be kenneled safely, as long as the staff know to hold his leash with two hands and keep him away from the other dogs. I ask they leave on the harness because this dog has no neck. To avoid any worry, when he must be kenneled ask that his crate or kennel be covered with a blanket to avoid his seeing and intereacting with other dogs and decline daily walks/playtime while kenneled. Also decline baths because he does not like strangers restraining him and touching his feet. He would never ever snap, but he will struggle until he injures himself. He lets me cut his nails and give him baths.

Email me to discuss whether or not he would work for you. laurahill75@live.com
