My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Remy is looking for a unicorn adopter.

This adorable pint-sized guy has such a resilient spirit, and he continues to try to be brave and trust people.

Remy was found running on busy streets at the tail end of Covid. No one claimed him. Although his fear of people has been obvious -- especially hands -- he did well in his Boulder foster home with careful handling and patience. Underneath his fear you could see his joyful warrior soul. Then Remy was adopted and at first thrived, and his adopters adored him. But then they had a few incidents with him and they decided he is not the right fit.

He will need a dedicated person to be patient with him, and to learn about his behavior and meet his needs. He absolutely loves walking in nature and exploring. He also seems to seek out male human companionship. In his foster home, he loved the teenage boy and all his friends. And now in his current adoptive home, he really trusts the husband.

Remy actually enjoys people and treats as long as you go slowly (and keep your hands to yourself). He has gained a lot of confidence in his adoptive home and seems calmer and far more stable. He'll need time, patience and someone who is willing to love him unconditionally.

The reason Remy is being returned is that last winter he had a few biting incidents in his home. Once we coached his adopters about his triggers and added gabapentin into his daily routine (prescribed by his vet) … they have not had another incident in 11 months. But the incidents irreparably damaged the human animal bond , sorry to say. We think in the right home, with the right people, Remy could be successful.

He will need a fairly quiet home with not too many people coming and going. He'll need:
. Someone committed to his management, which means putting Remy in a cozy room when plumbers or people who cannot follow simple instructions come over.
. Someone committed to learning and working with a behavior consultant to learn Remy! (We will provide this).
. Someone who loves adventures in nature as much as Remy does.
. Someone who can manage resources in the home when another small dog is present. (There is currently some competition over resources between Remy and the other small dog in the home, but they also play and enjoy each other.)

A yard is a must because getting the harness or leash on Remy every time he has to go to the bathroom is too much. He also really enjoys being outside, so an apartment or condo would not be great for him.
