My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My husband and I adopted Maynard 4 years ago from the Humane Society here in the Iowa Quad Cities. He is incredibly lovable, but due to some degree of physical limitation on our part, we aren't able to give Maynard the care he deserves.

Maynard is close to five years old. He is a very pretty brown and white and is extremely sweet. He gets incredibly verbal and has this almost desparate sound when he sees a loved one arrive home. He considers himself a lapdog and due to his notoriously heavy foot, we are working to change that perception in him. He does thrive on love and affection, both within the family and with every dog and school child that passes by our fenced yard.

There is a bit of urgency here in that my husband is going to be out of the country on business, beginning May 31. As a senior citizen night shift RN I am not able to be attentive to his needs during the day.

Steve and I have both become physically less able to provide what he needs. I have bad rotator cuff issues, and Steve's back is in terrible shape. We have been somewhat neglectful of this sweet dog's needs and we wish to put a stop to that.

Maynard is a pretty pampered guy in some respects. We have never been able to get him to eat without adding some kinds of people food to his food. He has generally eaten Beneful with about a quarter pound of ground beef added. Keeping ground beef at all times as a staple has kept him fed. If we have chicken or some other animal protein to throw into his food instead we give him a change every so often. Several bites of a steak from our plate to his dish helps him eat the whole meal as well.

For a family with a lot of love and affection for bassets, this cutie pie will bring much laughter and love into the house.

Maynard is still in his home in Iowa. Please contact BassetsRus at hoofandhound@yahoo.com or 913-481-6227
