Moka is one of 12 Shiba Inu’s that DC SIR rescued from a commercial breeding facility in the Midwest. She is a fearful Shiba but has grown in confidence while in foster care. She is very curious about people in the home and has become brave enough to come up to her foster family members and sniff them. She will happily greet them when they return from work, though her greeting is running back and forth in front of them while keeping her distance. She does the same when she sees her food bowl coming! Recently, she has shown she is ok being pet by sitting when touched. She is still quite nervous about having her harness put on but will stay still for it. She has become comfortable being walked on a leash. She currently has only been walking in the backyard. She is still fearful when she gets close to the front yard, where there are sidewalks, cars, and neighbors. She’s not comfortable walking in or out of the house, so she needs to be picked up for this. When being told “up up,” she will lie down and wait to be picked up. She has not walked up or down the stairs yet, but she is very curious of them. It’s coming soon! When she relaxes, she likes to lie next to her foster sister, Yuri. She will do best in a home with another friendly dog to cling to and rely on for security and comfort. Her forever family will need to show her patience and give her space so she can grow to become more and more confident.
