Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Yuri is one of 12 Shiba Inu’s that DC SIR rescued from a commercial breeding facility in the Midwest. She is a very fearful Shiba and requires space to feel comfortable. When inside the house, she prefers to stay in her corners where she feels safe. From there, she will watch her foster family. She is learning that they will not push her to do anything she doesn’t want to do and will occasionally walk around to explore. If offered treats (and she’s in the mood) she will accept treats that are left out or hand fed to her. When it’s dinner time, she prefers to eat alone in a quiet room or to be hand fed if she is nervous. When she hears her foster parents come home, she gets up and stares downstairs waiting for them to come in. Loud noises still scare her and cause her to scurry around looking for other safe spaces. She is used to being walked on a leash in the backyard. She still pulls to get her distance but can slowly be guided in the direction you want her to go, which is great progress for her. She likes to explore new areas, but only if they are free of any people. If she hears conversations in the distance, dogs barking, or loud noises, she will panic and try to run. She then has to slowly be guided back home. Once she has distance from the noise, she’ll start to calm down. She can be picked up when told “up up”, but this must be done slowly so she remains calm. She is great going up and down the stairs and will sometimes go upstairs to explore but quickly comes back down. Her confidence has been growing over time. She will do best in a home with another friendly dog that can show her that she can be safe and trust people. She will need a family that is very patient and understands that she needs her space. She can’t show affection right now, but in time, she will learn to trust again.
