Hello there! My name is Bozena (or Bożena), which means "divine" and that is just what I am! The most divine kitty that you will every meet! I had to live rough for the first year of my life, and I'm still learning to trust people, but as you can see from my picture, I adored my foster mom and was really starting to come out of my shell before she got sick and I had to move to the shelter. While all the people here are very loving and kind, it's a pretty busy place with different people every day, so its taking me a while to build up my confidence and my trust once again.
I know that once I have a family of my own, where things are a bit quieter and I can see the same people every day, I will once again be a confident and trusting companion, ready walk through the ups and downs of life with you. Are you looking for a quiet and steady kitty to add joy and levity to your home? Are you willing to be patient with me and give me the time and space I need to get comfortable in your home and learn to trust you? Well, if you are, I may be just the lady for you! We require a completed application before we can schedule a meet and greet.

Meet the Pet
Once we receive your application, one of our volunteers will be in touch to schedule a time to visit the shelter for a meet and greet.

Approve Application
Our adoption team will review your application to confirm that your home is a good fit for the cat your are interested in.
4.
Sign Adoption Contract
You will need to sign an adoption contract and provide proof of residence and that cats are allowed under your lease / condo rules.
5.
Pay Fee
As of Jan 1, 2025, our adoption fees are $160 for kittens and $130 for adult cats.
6.
Take the Pet Home
You will need a suitable carrier. If you don't already have one, please let our adoption team know, we may have one we can give you.

Prior to adoption, all of our cats are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on all shots (including deworming, distemper, all yearly inoculations, and rabies if old enough), microchipped, and tested for FIV and Feline Leukemia.
Cat Guardians rescues stray and abandoned cats who might otherwise not have a chance at adoption. We seek permanent, loving homes for our cat and kittens where they can live a long, happy and healthy life. For this reason we must ask you to read, understand and follow the following policies and then answer the following questions on the adoption application.
When You Have Decided to Adopt
After you have made the decision to add a new pet to your household, there are a few more steps to complete the process.
Important: All members of the household must come in prior to adoption.
Important: We do not usually do same-day adoptions. so you and your family can discuss the adoption and make sure that it is right for you, and also allow us time to complete all necessary paperwork.
FIRST
You must fill out an adoption application form. This form is reviewed by an adoption counselor who will contact you in response to your application.
SECOND
The shelter requires proof that you are able to have a pet in your home. If you are a renter, we must see a copy of your lease stating that you are allowed to have pets. If you are a homeowner, we need proof that you are currently making mortgage payments.
THIRD
Adoption fees help to cover the cost of first vaccinations, spaying/neutering, feline leukemia-AIDS tests, and worming (which may cost up to $400 per cat!). Adoption fees are $120 for adult cats and $150 for kittens.
FOURTH
When you come to take your new friend home, you must bring a sturdy carrier. We cannot let any cat or kitten leave the shelter unless it is safely secured. The cat carrier can serve several different purposes for your new friend. It can be its personal bed, and it can be used when taking the cat to the vet or other trips outside the house. Your cat will be much safer and happier in a carrier.
FINALLY
Once approved as an adoptive parent/family, you will be given an appointment to pick up your new feline friend on a day we are not open to the public. Please allow 45 minutes for the adoption process.

Cat Guardians, Inc. was opened in 1990, by founder Kathy Blackwell in a two-story white house near the corner of St. Charles and Westmore Road in Lombard, Illinois. Over the
years, the shelter has helped more than 3,700 cats and kittens find loving families. Many of the cats and kittens have been saved from the streets, helped to overcome medical
and/or socialization issues and given the time and space they need, while waiting to be adopted. Cat Guardians also provides a permanent home for cats that are more
challenging to adopt due to age, medical conditions and socialization issues.
Cat Guardians provides the best care for our kitties, and we put the animals’ health, plus well being above all else with a dedicated team of medical volunteers. At any given time, Cat Guardians has approximately 30 to 40 cats residing at the shelter. Most residents roam freely, having the ability to play, nap or hangout in their favorite spots. Our shelter is a very loving and caring environment for our kitties, which makes it a pleasure to volunteer as well as to visit.
The daily activities of the shelter are feeding the cats, administering medication, cleaning the litter boxes and the shelter, are performed with the help of volunteers and funded through supporters like you.
