08/01/23 SVPP Dog Day Out Notes: Today I: I made a new friend! She took me on a car ride. I initially had some trouble getting into the car and needed my friend to help me. I enjoyed my car ride that ended with me at Jeffery Fontana Park. I was very happy to see other people and dogs! I was very eager to befriend the dogs at the dog park, but my new friend said exploring the trail was much more fun! I loved sniffing and taking in all the new smells. I was curious and wanted to know more about what the squirrels were up to. My new friend my patient and was happy to give me breaks during our walk. We talked about birds and greeted people while we sat – I loved being stroked and getting scratches. Once we were back at the shelter I was a bit confused and tried to go back with my new friend, but was told that I will meet her again soon.
Three Words to Describe Me are: Friendly – Easy - Curious
Notes from My Walker: Doris is a very friendly dog! There was no problem with slipping a harness on her. She needed some help getting inside the car but once in, she sat calmly and seemed to enjoy the ride. At the park she pulled slightly while walking but a stern “No” diverts her attention back to us. She is not highly treat motivated but easy to handle. She is very curious about other dogs especially if they are running/playing. In general, she is not very reactive to other dogs or people while walking. She likes shorter walks with multiple breaks and usually asks for one when needed. She understands “sit” and “common/let’s go”. After our walk, we sat in the shade and she was very goofy – asking for belly rubs!
