My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

URGENT FOSTER HOME NEEDED with female dog or no dogs.

Kayo, Blue Heeler, 5 yrs., 52 lbs. Kayo is eager to find his forever home. He is an owner surrender who was not in the right environment for his breed. Previously he was either tied up outside or kenneled indoors without much of the time or attention he deserved. He’s now learning how good it is to have space and humans to connect with. Kayo will enjoy a person or family that is around often and has the time to engage both his body and brain; he’s very affectionate and wants nothing more than to be around his people.
Kayo is a sweet, smart, and athletic guy who would thrive in a moderately active home; he understands when it’s time to play and do stuff, and when it’s time to just relax. He is house-trained, crate-trained, and well-mannered on leash; he loves squeaky toys, long walks and games of fetch. With Kayo’s energy level, he would likely make an excellent hiking or running buddy. This guy is very sharp and a fast learner, so he’s been enjoying work on “sit”, “stay” and “drop” commands in his foster home. He would flourish with a person or people who can continue and reinforce his existing training. Kayo rides well in vehicles and would gladly be someone’s co-pilot – perhaps to some hiking trails and other outdoor adventures! He’s ready for it all!
Kayo would do well with a female dog or as an only dog; he should not be in a home with cats due to his high prey drive. He gets along well with most dogs; we recommend providing introductions if considering a multi-dog home. As a heeler, he leans into his herding instincts and will thrive under strong leadership and structure from his people. Overall, Kayo is an excellent dog with so much potential – come meet him today!
