Here's what the humans have to say about me:
NOTE: GSRSV HAS NOT MET DUKE; HE IS WITH HIS PERSON IN SACRAMENTO. WE ARE LISTING DUKE WITH OUR OTHER ADOPTABLE DOGS ON THIS WEBSITE TO GIVE HIM MORE ADOPTION EXPOSURE. PLEASE CONTACT SUSANA ORTIZ AT 916-813-8496 OR ORTIZ.SUSIE@YAHOO.COM.
"Duke" is a 2-yr old, approx 90-lb neutered male GSD who is friendly, calm & protective. Duke is healthy and up-to-date on core vaccinations.
Duke is extremely loyal and shadows her person (Susana) wherever she goes.
Duke is friendly with people who come into the house when properly introduced, but barks at people he sees out on walks. Duke has never been around children.
Duke is generally social with other dogs, including when he has stayed at a boarding kennel. He gets along well w/ the other male GSD in the home, who is six months younger than him. However, he has had several altercations with the alpha female GSD in his home. The female has always initiated the fights and Duke just protects himself. Ironically, the fights only occur inside; he gets along great w/ the female GSD when playing outside.
Duke lives with two small, senior dogs, but they do not like him and have provoked Duke at times. So, Susana keeps him separate from the two little dogs. However, Duke gets along great w/ Susana’s daughter’s six-month old Australian Shepherd puppy.
Duke is NOT good with cats.
Duke is housetrained and non-destructive inside..He stays inside the family room when his people are gone for several hours. He sleeps inside and often goes into his crate with the door open. He has access to the outside via a dog door at night.
Duke walks well on leash but is scared of busy streets so his people only walk him in their residential neighborhood. He is reactive towards other dogs he sees when on walks but just barks at them—nothing overtly aggressive. Duke’s people have not had him off-leash when off of their property so they can’t say how his off-leash recall is.
Duke is calm when riding in a vehicle, but has not had much experience riding other than going to the vet or a boarding kennel. He has become car-sick on a few occasions.
Duke loves all kinds of chewing and squeaking toys. He loves to fetch and loves playing with the other dogs outside. He enjoys chasing birds and squirrels.
Susana purchased Duke from an independent breeder when he was eight weeks old. Though she is very close with Duke, she is now seeking a new home for him because the fights between him and her female GSD have escalated in frequency and severity.
Duke is located in Sacramento. His adoption fee is $100, per GSRSV’s policy.
Please contact Susana Ortiz at 916-813-8496 or ortiz.susie@yahoo.com.
