My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Why hello there! My name is Frenchy (my name in Mexico is "Charra") and here is some info about me:

PHYSICAL INFO:

  • Breed: Shepherd/Lab Mix

  • Age: approx. 2 years

  • Gender: Female

  • Weight: 43 lbs (19.5 kg)! I'll likely be around 45-50 lbs when fully grown.

  • Height: 66 cm

  • Length: 84 cm

  • Neck circumference: 35 cm

  • Chest circumference: 62 cm

  • Current Location: MEXICO CITY

RESCUE STORY – Me and my four sisters (Rizzo, Jani, Sandy, and Marty) were rescued from La Marquesa, a rural park area in Mexico City. We were incredibly young puppies and our mama was nowhere to be found. We certainly would not have survived long out there if we hadn't been rescued... so we are sooo grateful to have been taken in by our amazing rescuer. Me and my sisters ("the Pink Ladies") have spent the rest of our lives at the shelter here in Mexico and boy are we ever ready for our forever homes!! Are you ready for me??

TEMPERAMENT - I am a very sweet and loving puppy. I am definitely the most timid and guarded out of my siblings (video), but it just means I take a little while longer to warm up to new people. You can earn my trust by being patient with me and giving me lots of yummy treats. Once I open up, I am eager for affection and love to play! I love to wrestle and play with my siblings and I get along with dogs of all sizes (although sometimes I can be timid around dogs who play too rough). I am looking for a patient, loving family who is ready for "all things puppy" - hoomans who are open to working with timidity, potential play nipping, high energy, housetraining, and leash skills. I promise to repay you with loads of cuddles, kisses, and tail wags!

ENERGY LEVEL - Medium/High - I have very typical puppy energy! I play hard and I crash hard (although I may need help learning how to settle and self regulate... crate training will likely do wonders for me!). I am looking for a family who can provide opportunities for me to release my energy through both exercise and mental stimulation. Once I've been sufficiently tuckered out, I bet I'll be happy to cuddle up next to you and have a little cuddle.

GETS ALONG WITH:

  • Kids – Yup - I have met some older children (video) and although I was shy at first, I showed no aggression whatsoever. Check out this video of me walking on leash with an older child - I'm such a good girl! I really warmed up to him and enjoyed some pets after (video)

  • Dogs – Yup! In addition to my siblings, I live with LOTS of other dogs at the shelter and we get along just great. Check out this video and this video of me loving every minute of being at the local park! Here is a video of me sharing a stick at the dog park too!

    • NOTE: sometimes I play a bit rough with other dogs. Same as all dogs, I should be supervised when I play so that my human can step in and recall me if I get too excited.

  • Cats – Unknown.

PREY DRIVE -  Unknown. I’m not too sure how I’ll react around new things in Canada like cats/squirrels/rabbits etc. My adopter needs to be prepared and willing to train me through these behaviours, should they arise.

TRAINING:

  • Leash skills – Work in progress! This whole leash thing is very new to me, as a young pup. I will need a patient adopter who is happy to work on my leash training and who can teach me how to walk nice. A well-fitted harness and lots of positive reinforcement will help me learn quickly :)

    • Feb 2024 Update - look at me practicing my leash skills (video)

  • House trained – Work in Progress. Frequent potty breaks and positive reinforcement will help me learn propper habits in my new home :)

Please Note: WCP highly encourages adopters to do some research and training on their own before their dog arrives.

HEALTH NOTES:

  • I am spayed and vaccinated. I will come to Canada with proof of all my vaccines and test records.

  • I receive a monthly pill to prevent heartworm.

  • NOTE: It is not uncommon for rescue dogs to require dental work/cleaning after they are adopted. West Coast Paws does not cover the costs of dental work and/or vet visits. These costs are the financial responsibility of the adopter.

ADOPTION FEE:

  • My adoption fee is $840.00 CAD ($750.00 + GST and PST), which includes my airfare, if a flight volunteer is found directly to Vancouver.
