My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Astronaut!

He is a 6 year old Pit Bull mix who weighs 45 pounds. Astronaut is a loveable boy who is always eager to be near those closest to him. He can be shy at first, but with a few tasty treats he opens up and is ready to give you all of his love. Astronaut spent some time in a foster home and adjusted well to life in a home. He was completely potty trained, didn`t mind being left alone, and turned into a complete couch potato! It took him a few days to be fully comfortable, but after a day or two he settled in very well and enjoyed spending his days napping on the couch and watching tv.

He is a great combination of energetic and laid-back. He loves going for long walks and occasionally playing with his toys, but he is just as happy to snuggle on the couch for some love. He is selective with dogs, so he would need a slow introduction to see if they would be a good match, but may prefer to be the only dog in his home. Due to his initial sensitivity, if there are children in his forever home they need to be ages 13 and older.

If Astronaut looks like the cutest pup you`ve ever seen, give us a call at 330-487-0333 ext 226 to learn more about him and schedule a time to come in and meet!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

All of our adoptable animals are up-to-date on all age appropriate vaccinations, spayed or neutered, de-wormed, de-flea and microchipped before adoptions are finalized. All dogs over six months of age receive a temperament assessment by our Certified Professional Dog Trainer to ensure appropriate placement. Also, many animals in our care receive basic obedience training to improve manners and increase adoptability.

We are currently doing adoptions by appointment only. Please contact us by phone at (234) 212-9843 or email at adoptions@summithumane.org, and an adoption counselor will return your message. They will review our adoption process, answer any questions, and tell you more about the animals currently available for adoption at our shelter and in our foster program. If we have a match for you and your family, an appointment will be scheduled to meet the animal.

Additional questions can be directed to our adoption team at (234) 212-9843.
