My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Enzo is a handsome, sweet boy who has been enjoying life off the streets in his foster home in Queens since May 2023. He seeks human attention, doesn’t mind being picked up, and even will jump onto your lap and “make biscuits” while purring.

Based on the veterinarian's estimate, he is 9 years old. He’s 11 pounds, muscular and energetic. He loves to chase wand toys.

I think he would like to live with other friendly cats but also would not be miserable as a single cat. He does not initiate aggression with the other resident cat in his foster home; they generally give each other their personal space.

He got a short haircut this summer. He is well behaved during grooming and bathing, even seems to enjoy it to an extent--but you don’t have to bathe him if you don’t choose to.

Aside from his FIV status, he’s very healthy. He’s neutered and free of parasites. He can jump to high ledges; likes to have a perch, like most cats. He even recently demonstrated his excellent ability as a mouser (see photo) when (to foster mom’s horror) an unlucky rodent found its way into Enzo’s foster home. Enzo is FIV positive and FeLV negative.

You don't have to definitively commit: He can go to a good home on a foster basis, and if you decide it's not working out, we will of course take him back--a foster-to-adopt arrangement. He will likely win your heart

Enzo is FIV positive and FeLV negative. Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) is a lentivirus, like HIV, that affects cats around the world. FIV is only contagious among cats and difficult to transmit. It is also slow-acting, so cats generally do not show any symptoms until years after being infected. The amount of time it takes for the virus to make a cat become immune compromised can vary, but once symptomatic, FIV positive cats are more vulnerable to contracting other diseases. However, with the proper care, FIV positive cats can live healthy, happy lives.

Additional adoption info

All cats and kittens are vaccinated and tested for FELV (feline leukemia) and FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus), and if old enough, are neutered or spayed.
We will ask you some questions about your home and we will be glad to answer any questions you may have. Adopting a pet is a long-term commitment. We ask you to sign the KittyKind Adoption Agreement.
We will always take a cat back FOR ANY REASON. We will also work with you to place her in another good home if (after a period of adjustment) the adoption doesn't work out.
We do ask for a $125 adoption fee to help cover some of our food and veterinary expenses. For certain purebred cats (Siamese, Persian, Maine Coon, etc.), we request a $150 - $300 adoption fee.

More about this rescue

KittyKind is a New York City not-for-profit, no-kill, all-volunteer cat rescue and adoption group. All of us at KittyKind have opened our hearts and homes — and emptied our pockets — to save thousands of cats from neglect or abuse. Every cat we rescue is given food, shelter, medical care, a safe place to lay his or her head and most importantly of all, a reason to purr. We do not believe in rescuing a cat or kitten only to euthanize it if it has a broken leg or needs extended nursing care. We never give up if there is a chance of saving them. We take responsibility for each and every life we save and if a cat or kitten is unadoptable, they have a home with us for life.
We believe that animals are not property to be discarded, disposed of, or killed just for the crime of being homeless or unwanted. We believe that people should be friends, caretakers and protectors of animals. We believe that we must take responsibility for the life of every animal we rescue who through no fault of their own, is abandoned, sick, disabled, old or unable to care for themselves. We are dedicated to relieving their suffering, providing food, shelter, medical care and comfort until we can place them in a safe and loving home.
