Nicki (name given by ADR.org) was picked up as a stray on May 9th by Animal control in CA and brought to KERN COUNTY ANIMAL SERVICES.
There he unfortunately became RO (rescue only) due to his shyness and a serious URI (Upper respiratory infection- and next step would have been that he would end up on euthanization list.
ADR.org heard about him and pulled him from the shelter on May 22.
He had been living as a stray for quite some time - the rip cage was very much visible on intake in vet clinic.
Ever since entering the clinic tests started and he was diagnosed with Mycoplasma, and bacterial pneumonia. He was the favorite dog at the clinic, loved by the staff for his patience and being a gem.
Nicki recovered after 2 weeks of IV treatment, and could finally receive all his vaccinations, he could undergo surgery for Neuter and Nikki was microchipped.
On July 20, Nikki arrived on Orcas Island, WA and has settled in well and decompressed.
On the property of the founder Nikki can finally run around and paly with other (male and female) dogs. Nikki will stay until a home is found that deserves him and will provide a forever home for him.
Amongst his new friends are also two cats. With guidance on how to interact with the cats, Nikki truly can make progress.
Based on ADR.org's personality assessment, we can propose what criteria the new home for this fellow needs to offer to make him thrive and grow further in his personality:
# As Nikki still has lots of puppy behavior in him and is attracted to other dogs, a home with another dog (female or male) would be beneficiary for him.
# Nikki would thrive with stimulations and enrichment presented to him - be it as if you are an active walker, or you look for a hiking partner so that Nikki can sniff around which he so likes. He is inquisitive when he is on walks - a typical terrier and likes to read the "doggy newspaper".
# He would not do well, and it would not be fair to him to keep him in a high rise or apartment complex alone all day- nor would a city environment please him.
# A sized grassy backyard would be a delight to him for romping and playing
If you think you want to be to be the one who offers Nicki that home, contact me by sending an email to ADR@animaldefenserescue.org indicating when you have time to have a phone call with me, the founder of ADR.org.
In a phone I would like to get to know you better before sending an application form.
Please also share some photos of your home, the backyard and anything you want to share with me, incl. a photo of you and your family.
ADR.org will NOT respond to any FB messages.
NICKI is looking forward to reading that mail.
WOOFLY yours,
Nicki and ADR.org
